Oil in intake... w/pics

Ok.. here is my issue. My car has some kind of vacuum leak coming from the intake. It's an older edelbrock intake, and it has a plate on the side. I DO NOT have a baffle on the passenger side, and i think that is were my oil is coming from. Do you guys think that adding an oil catch and put a breather on the valve cover and plug the throttle body?? i also have oil deposits on the EGR and valve cover. Can i take the EGR off and like plug it with something? like use a soda can and plug it off completely? anyways enough questions, here are the pics.

Is there oil on the inside of the hose running from the TB to the valve cover?

Is the pcv line still intact?

I wouldn't worry about the crud on the outside of the EGR...

a home depot oil separator will help determine where the oil is coming from...

I know it may seem excessive to you, but depending on how long that intake has been on the car, I wouldn't worry about it all that much. A certain amount of oil always goes through the intake, from the hose from the oil filler neck to the TB and from the PCV. It gets sucked in as a vapor and some of the residue stays on the inner surfaces of the intake. If it really bugs you, the in-line oil separator would be your best bet. It would collect most of the liquid oil from the vapor coming out of the crankcase and keep most of it out of the intake.

No worries mate it happens to most every one of us. Unless you're under there cleaning fairly regularly you're going to get buildup.

Thanks guys. Ill put in the oil seperator. Yes the PCV is still intacked so ill put it there. I will also do away with the tube going to the TB and just put a breather. I thought it was something bad

Don't use breathers if you still have the pcv!!!

Also,
Leave the tube on the valve cover/TB. It has a function...
If you have oil getting into the intake from this line, then the right way to fix it is to install a baffle.

I do still have the pcv intact.. what type of baffle should I install?

Just a dumb question, but what is an oil seperator? Does anyone have a picture of one? Thanks....

this isnt normal. If you clean it out, then put it back together and run it a few miles you will have that same puddle of oil built up. The old performer intakes did not have a baffle at the pcv valve in the lower intake. This causes the vacuum to suck liquid oil as well as vapor through the pcv screen and valve. That puddle is right nex to the pcv vacuum port. The only real way to fix this is to take the lower intake off, and weld or braze a baffle onto it. the stock one works well . i had this same exact problem with the same exact intake. A home depot seperator will not fix the problem.

i had oil mess like that befor in the intakes when i work at shop i use carb cleaner smell bad but cleans realy good. did you over fill the motor with oil thats the frist time i seen that much oil in the intake

i was considering some type of Forced induction in the near future, is this intake even a decent one? or should i upgrade to something else? do you have pics of the baffle you welded to the bottom of yours? i thought the only thing the intakes had was a screen by the PCV and that was it? damn im bummed now!

Don't get too worried about it. It won't be that tough to take care of...

You may be able to tell if you have a baffle or not by looking down the pcv hole in the lower intake...
You will need to remove the pcv and screen, then use a flashlight and mirror to look down the hole.

You will either see flat metal (the baffle), or the lifter valley.
