I bought a deep sump pan (with side kickouts) for my 66 Mustang for added capacity that included its own pump pickup. I also bought a new Mellings High volume oil pump. My question is as follows. Measuring from the bottom of block to the bottom of the pickup (which I already mounted on the new pump), I have 7 7/8" installed height . Measuring the depth of the new oil pan from the top rail (excluding the gasket), I have 9 1/4 inches. With the gasket installed I will have an extra 1/4 inch making the total depth 9 1/2 inches. My question is that I have calculated 1 5/8" to the bottom of the pan the insert height of the pickup. I always thought you should keep this to about a 1/2". I cant bend the pickup as it is welded pretty substantially so that is out of the question. Will this cause an issue being this high from pan bottom? I am anal about checking oil levels so I know I wont ever be low for as little driving as I do. I have yet to determine where the dipstick lies in relation to all of this but will check for sure. Any thoughts? thanks, Brian
