I was driving to work (mostly freeway) and the car was running fine and I came to a stop light and I heard the audible ding from the Oil Pressure Low warning and I noticed the gauge needle was at 0 then within seconds the needle moved back to about 1/2 and the warning went away.

There was no knocking to indicate that the pump failed and I finished the trip to work (a couple blocks away).

Bad gauge, or sensor etc...?

Possibly a bad gauge sending unit. If the oil pressure really was zero, the engine would start running rough 'cause the VCT would no longer be functional, and you'd hear a tapping sound coming from collapsed hydraulic lash adjusters.
