Oil separator review...

I installed a Steeda oil separator this week....after a week of rain I was finally able to drive it some...
I put like 10 miles or less on it and was anxious to check out the separator and see if it worked....WOW....I had about 1/4" of oil in the separator... Just about what the pic shows...

I knew I was losing oil as my intake spacer was saturated and knew something was up and she was drinking its fair share....I had a new valve and lines too...I has this problem when it was pretty much stock...adding H/C/I seemed to add to the problem..

anyway, just wanted to share....amazing how much oil it could drink inbetween oil changes...i mounted mine just like the pic....was very easy to do..from the PCV valve to the IN side if the separator, then run the OUT line back to where your PCV line feeds into the upper...tit...

For a worthwhile mod that works...I give this one a 10...

I got mine from Steeda for like 68.00 shipped...its was more money for sure but I couldn't locate a separator...I looked around for awhile and never came across one....I said screw it and just got this one to be done with it...its got all the stuff and saved me the BS of running around looking for chit.. sometimes its more hassle than the mod itself... :damnit:

Yeah my plan is to do it myself, but I'll most likely do what you do and just get the Steeda one.

Finally got the network up and running again...Snapped a few pics...

Here's 150 miles worth of oil that didn't get into the upper...Almost 1/2" in 150 miles...I'd say it was woofing its share....

Rio, your car looks better everytime you post a pic! My seperator's arriving tomorrow, hopefully i'll have it on soon. How did it plug into the 93 Cobra PCV lines? Was it plug and play or did you have to cut the hose or just run with one hose to the PCV valve?

18mustangs...The Steeda kit came with about 18" of 3/8" hose, fuel line actually...I needed more to make straight runs in/out. With the hose in the kit I connected directly to my PCV valve and ran to the IN side...I stopped and got 2' of 3/8 fuel line and ran from the OUT side directly to where the old PCV line feed in on that Tee that connects em, you'll see...very tit connections...

You couldnt locate one??? Theyre at Walmart in the car section for $12. But of course you dont get the bracket with it. (just messin with you)
But like you said, you didnt have to hassle with the rest.. $68 still a bit steep though...I could get something chromed for that price.

I know Michael Yount once posted info about how much his homemade catch can held (HCI on a 92 shortblock, in his Volvo). I am too lazy but one can search 'threads he started' for that info. IIRC, he thought it was a lot of oil; I did not think it was that much.

Thanks for the write up Andy. You gave me the motivation to do install mine (it has been sitting the bench for a few months).

Is that from the oil fumes that the PCV sucks up?

Simply put, it removes the aerated oil the PCV valve is pushing to the upper..

Ever pull your upper intake and find oil all around your intake ports??? Your motors built some so I would thing you have it...most do....
I put on a intake spacer last Fall....they come like a Tan color...Mines Black now cause its soaked with oil getting pushed up...I knew it was doing it for years...Been bugging me since I noticed it...every time i pull the upper, oil in the ports... :damnit:
When I first removed the stock upper, I had no oil to speak of...alot of Black crud, no oil...Once I ported the lower....everytime I pulled the upper the ports were super clean...but oil was all around, and in em....I swapped on an Explorer, same deal, then the 93 Cobra, same deal again....I read up on these on Corner Carvers forum, lotta them use em....I just wanted to cure it more than anything...I gotta admit thought, my gas milage is up some since I added it..

Yep, oil can lead to detonation, but mostly the nastyness we all hate. Gotta' love the low-tension rings used (for economy, amongst other reasons).

So now how about a way to auto return the oil to the crank case. If you got that much oil in 150 miles you won't make it 3k miles without emptying it.

Anyone do something like that?
