I am currently doing a 4 cyl to V8 carb conversion. I'm using a 289 out of a 1963 Ford Galaxie 500. The Galaxie was lost in a shop fire, thankfully the motor was at the machine shop. My question is that I have a duel sump oil pan from a Mustang. The 289 has a front sump oil pan. Will I have to change the oil pump pickups?

Yes, you'll need to change the pickup tube. I swapped an Explorer 5.0 into my car last year, and the pickup tube was completely different. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to just pick up a new oil pump and hardened ARP oil pump driveshaft while you're at it.
