Ok for fan to stay on?

I'm kind of new to Mustangs, and have spent the past few months restoring my 5.0. That being said, is it normal for the fan to come on on first crank? Or should it stay off until the engine warms up? If it's a temp sensor, groovy, easy fix, but is it normal? Also, during warm up, the throttle sticks a little. Nothing a push of clutch can't take of, but for 2 or so seconds, the rpm sticks. Any ideas for a stang newb?

is it an electric fan or the factory one mounted to the water pump? If its electric & you didnt put it in there, there is no telling how someone else has wired it in. They may have set it up to come on with the key in the on position so as not to forget to flip a toggle switch. Its not a bad thing to have the fan come on as soon as the car starts but, like any thing, the more you use it the faster it will wear out. Mine was a cheap one out of a salvage yard & that is how I wired mine. to come on & stay on as long as the engine is running.

If you think the throttle is sticking during warm up, thats not right. It will rev a little at first to figure everything out.NOW if you push the throttle and it stay for a good bit and you either have to pull it close or it does by it's self thats a worry.Lube the linkage. And yeah electric fan or what?peace

I've checked the throttle line for binding or rust, and neither seem to there. I've cleaned the throttle body internally, and made sure that it was opening and closing smoothly, but there's no evidence of anything out of the ordinary. I'm thinking it's a computer issue, but wouldn't that normally continue, warm and cold? As for the fan, it's completely stock. I really don't mind that it's constantly running, the cooler the better, in my opinion, but as was said, the more use, the more wear. I'm actually thinking of just forgoing the stock fan and clutch, and put in a cooler, easier to modify electric fan. Seems like the better choice.

the electric fan is a pretty easy mod. most people say to upgrade to the 3G alt first though. there are right ups on both on here. while at the salvage yard getting the fan, might as well snag the Alt too. As for the high idle, if the mechanical side of things look good, you could try taking yor IAC off, take it apart, and cleaning it.

So wait a second? This is the stock fan clutch? Mechanical?

Then yes, it's always on. That's what mechanical clutches do. There is no temp sensor, they turn with the engine which is what they are designed to do. No computer controls them

The only failure can be the clutch itself, which tends to seize and cause "whooshing" noises. With the engine off, grab the fan and turn. It should turn with resistance, but not require too much effort. If it's hard to turn or won't turn at all....the fan clutch has failed.
