its friggin steaming in my car and leather seats dont help, the engine is equipped to have a/c ( i think all i have is a air compressor), but the car iself is not, if possible could you uys list everyhting i would need to have and do to get some cold air running in my car?

i'm gonna upgrade to the sn95 alternator this summer and recharge my a/c system. should be fine then, even if stuck in traffic and not moving. i lived in SoCal where blasting a/c, radio, charging cell, etc while stuck in traffic not moving can drain your battery and kill the car. NO JUICE.. then your screwd leaving car behind or towing.. :nonono:

You think your hot, try living in Miami with no a/c. My origianl compressor crapped out on me in Nov, so i figured i'd get a new one of remanufactured one in the summer. It's now summer here(with horrible humidity), but i won't have the extra cash for a while cause i want a new one that 300 bucks. At least i can enjoy listening to my exhaust sound while having the windows down.

i dont know what it is with my c ar, the transmssion gets friggin hot as hell so even with the windows down im still cooking and my door panles seem likes they're greasy or something, i just wanna know what parts i need besides the compressor, or will i be bettefr going to a place that does a/c and have them do it? i know either way my pockets will be empty

I have all my a/c parts still if you need anything specific.. most of the hvac system went straight in the dumpster, but I hung on to all the underhood stuff. Good luck.

r12 ac problem fix

fellas. I have an 87 gt , i too was tired of the smoldering heat, especially days when i couldnt put my top down, like rain. but i found something that seemed too easy. i had been throwing around the idea of the r134a conversion in my head, and thought it would cost alot. and also filling up my car with r12 and seeing where it leaks, fixing it, then filling it up agian. with prices of that around 5.00 a oz, that is unreasonable. i found out that stores like napa(where is got mine), they sell a kit for only like 47.99. its a conversion in a box. i thought this was too easy and too cheap to be for real, why would i be driving around in a hot ass car for the three years i've owned this if it only cost 50 bucks and like 20 min to fix? i was feeling lucky, bought it. it came with 3lbs of freon, a oil conversion mix(first you gotta evacuate your r12 oil out) but this stuff is made to work with a small bit of it, as well as the new oil for the r134a, and it came with a couple fittings that screw right over the r12 fittings. blam, thats it. no joke, it took me like 15 min to evacuate the r12 out, then like 5 to fill it up. i have a small leak somewhere, so i added some UV die to it, and when it quits working i will find out where the leak is, fix it, and fill it back up. anyways, i hope this helps. if i had known about this easy fix, i would have been alot happier a long time ago. email me if you have any questions. good luck all.

Its not that simple really. You have to evacuate the system if there has been a major leak. That requires a vacuum pump. And its surely gonna take more than 15 min. If the system has not been working for quite some time, the compressor will need replacing. If the old compressor failed the system will need to be flushed or you risk ruining the new one shortly. The system can be charged with nitrogen to locate leaks, much cheaper than refrigerant.

simple

it was that simple, and i did not have a major leak, i was holding 28 on the vaccum side of the gauge after the evacuation. i called ford and 15 minutes is the time they recommended. nitrogen may be cheaper if you have access to it, but since the kit comes with 3lbs of freon, all you have to do is buy the uv dye. even after filling it up, it leaking, and filling it back up, its still under 100.. also, my compressor had not worked for the past 3 years that I have owned the car, and it works just dandy. i did the conversion on saturday, and its holding steady, i figure its probably just o rings, whatever it is, its really minor.
