OK, I searched and I give up…

Recently I saw a post somewhere that a vendor was modifying standard 67-68 instrument clusters to have the appearance of factory tach clusters, even showed the back view of the modified cluster.

Thought I bookmarked it, now I can't find it. Sound familiar to anyone?

No, I've installed those, and they are darned nice, better fit and finish than the factory gauges.

The one I was looking for replaces the large OIL-ALT dial on the stock cluster, looks like the factory tach.

How about this one? They restore the factory cluster and can put the tach from a Shelby in there.


Hall's Restoration we carry all mustang and cougar parts



I actually just went to the site and they don't have a page with the restored clusters and pricing. You might contact them and see if they are still doing that.

look at the new Autometer MC series.


Auto Meter

these are 5 inch gauges and would look sweet in your car. The one is a combo speedo and tach whereas the other has fuel, volt, oil pressure, and temp on it.

Thats another cool factory looking tach, but I like the clock one better.

These Auto Meter gauges are weird.

My intent was to find a tachometer that would fit inside the stock cluster without modification, and have the appearance of the stock 67 or 68 tach, and I was able to find the source. However, I have not yet seen or installed one, so I can't say if it's worth the search, yet.

A shop near here is considering using one on a current project, so I should be able to find out what I need to know. Fit, wiring mods, reliability, little things like that.
