Ok, I want to paint my car but....

I don't know where to start. I kinda figured that before I spend a couple grand on a paint job that I'd do it my self 1st to see if I can do it and save the cash. I know I need to sand it...I've sanded down the front end.

What grit sand paper should I stop with?
When should I wet sand?
What order do I need to go in? Sand, prime, paint and clear??? Or is there some steps in between?
Dose anyone have any ''how-to'' sites?

To be honest, unless you have a buddy that knows how to paint and can help you, pay someone to do it. I tried to do the samething and it's just easier when someone knows what they're doing.

I've painted several now. There's really not that much to painting. A job is 95% prep work. I have 110 hours in the 84. The vert you can see some pics in the booth at my signature.

My best advice is this...
No one can diagnose or tell you what to do with your car. Each job is a little different. It's like the doctor trying to diagnose you over the telephone.

I picked up the book "How to Paint Your Car". See Amazon. WELL worth the money. It will answer all of your questions.

Then find a fender and a hood and practice.

You get what you pay for is a good saying that reallly applies here. A how to book really helps like was mentioned. Also talk with teh painter and tell them what you want. I'd go ahead and offer to help take things off like the headlamps, the wing and anything you wanted painted well or under. Bring them a 6 pack of beer and make sure to get in good with them.
