My speedometer has recently given up the ghost. And also my odometer has called it quits a few months ago.
I have checked under the car to see if the speedo gear is still in place and it is.
However I was messing around under the driver side dash running some speaker wire maybe could I have pulled it away from the gauge cluster in the back.

And as for the Odometer not working it dosent bother me cause my car still has 88K on it when it really has about 94K. But what do yall think may have caused the malfunction. Thoughts?

Thanks, CLINT

There is a sensor on the trans the will cause the odometer to stop. Check that first for loose wires and such. Its a wierd set up.

if the odometer goes blank does that mean for the time its out it is not counting new mileage?

so. if yours goes out and you drive 5 miles and it comes back on..wit the odometer read correctly?

its possible the display itself is just broken and it is still racking up milage, im sure it couldnt be that easy just to disconnect the right wire behind the cluster to stop your milage from adding up, there has go to be some security so people dont fudge with he milage

It sounds like you have 2 seperate issues at play. If the odometer quit working first & the speedo continued to work (on 94-98 cars only), the likely culprit is the odometer drive gears. The speedometer can be any of the following:
wiring/bad connection
speed sensor
drive or driven gears in the transmission
speedo head gone bad

im not sure about the OP but in my particular situation-> When i first get into the car and turn it on, the odometer initially works (it flashes all 8's) and then shows the mileage. then once i am driving itll just quit out. it does randomly come back.

im going to assume this is a wiring problem.

ive taken the cluster out of the dash before and i dont recall many wires leading to it. will i have to open the cluster to fix my problem? or is it likely to be in the wiring harness leading to it?

Sounds like your issue could either be a bad cluster or a wiring/connection issue between the cluster & PCM.

my money is on bad wireing, check the wireing directly into the plug and make sure noneof the prongs are bent

my speedo and odometer gave up on me a little while after the head swap on the saleen and it ended up being the part of the wire loom around the back of the engine. the egr pipe had melted through a couple wires and shorted it out. i dont know if your problem is the same but maybe it'll give you somewhere to start looking i hate wiring.

good luck
