ok stereo in a convertible?

Oh boy did I every try to make any stereo sound good in Chepsk8! I never could quite get it, as there is no good place for speakers.

If I had kept Chepie, I was going to put a self-powered sub for the trunk, put in good Mid's somewhere, and tweeters in the dash opening. This system would also need to have a good cross-over network and amp(s).

Convertibles are VERY tough to get good sound out of. Please also note: Cutting up convertible-specific panels makes me cringe, as I found out that NO replacememnt panels are offered for many years. If you decide to cut. FIRST make sure replacements are available, BUY them, and then cut up the worse of the two! I just finished an article on exactly that for an upcomming issue of Hemmings Mustang Magazine, and have WORTH to thank for helping me fix the butchery I did previously to my car.

Well, I wish I had a better picture to show but I don't so this will have to do. Like chepsk8, cutting holes in panels and doors makes me cringe, particularly on a 69/70 model. As you can just see in the lower pic, I have two 100 watt Pioneer self encased old school speakers just sitting on the back seat, acting almost as an arm rest. Honestly, I rarely have passengers back there anyway, and the seats are so small that when I do, the 2/ 1/2 inches narrower they become on each side makes little difference. When it's empty they are very easy to turn 90 degrees and lay against the back so they face the front for maximum quality. Also, when parked and just hanging out like at the beach, they are easy to lift up and onto the trunk or tonneau cover as well. I also added a Kenwood 60 watt dual cone under the dash that fits in the stock location but gives true stereo sound. I can easily drown out my headers at WOT on the highway top down at about 65-70% power.

WTF!!! I browse, I upload, I please wait, and then nothing!

I noticed a trophy back there! Showing off, huh?????

On the DCVER, I just took out the seats only, and built a wooden replacement, which had a chamber behind the speakers, and a big amp. I'd post a pic, but alas, see my other thread!!!

Nah, when I want to show off I show folks my Hemmings Mustang and Tech Guide feature and cover shot.

Actually even at $5 a mile, the thought of a rack of bikes hanging off my bumper makes my skin crawl like you wouldn't believe.

I'll give you 10 Days to think about it, along with five people in the car, salt water in the air, sand in the carpets, coolers and surfboards in the back seat, I'll teach Deanna to drive stick on it, and picking up as many hitchiking young lasses as I can!

(and BTW, 25 Cents a mile, just like my company expense report, buckaroo....)
