Ok

steel on the brake lines, can do. Thinking of ordering the granada setup from opentracker, it looks very complete and would eliminate a bunch of parts chasing, which I`m starting to hate a little.

If you were closer I know where there's a Maverick with it's front discs intact. Soon as I get the time, I'm going to take em.

Oh ****, don't tell me that!!! Now we can't be friends any more. 30 years driving trucks. Had my own back in the 80's. Won't do that again.

LOL

Actually my dad was a owner operator, I drove for him for about 8 years after high school. Got hurt pretty bad and went to brokering about 1995, and have a very good old school carrier following due to my exp driving back when it was fun.
I`m not one of the bad ones, I know who they are.

You'd be only the second "good one" I've met then. The only other was a newbie broker (this was in 1987) in the Omaha Ne. area. I wouldn't have thoughts about em except for the hundreds of times I've seen em take half the freight off the top then act like they're doing you a favor by offering the leavings to you. What kind of freight do you handle? I'm back in flat beds again after a 14 year stint in tankers (12 in Food grade, 2 in fuel hauling) Used to go to Ft. Smith frequently in food grade delivering mostly to Planters Peanuts there and occasionally to Pepper Source over behind the Arkansas scales on hwy 64.

Most of my freight is off west coast

I do van and reefer freight, I quit brokering flat bed freight 3 or 4 years ago, the rates started to fall on the loads, and being as I`d pulled a flat bed myself for awhile as a driver, and know the risk involved, I just backed out of it.

Thats how I got hurt, was running a drop deck and was sitting in Washington DC in Feb of 95. Had a blown up tractor on my trailer, was on top of it taking the stacks off during a major blizzard and fell off onto a roadway. 3 point landing, head, shoulder and elbow, amazingly, only things broke were shoulder and elbow cept for big flat spot on that side of my head. Hurt like hell for months. I got kinfolk work at planters and peppersource.

Do I have to run a return line to the tank to run one of those?

If you get a cheaper one that does not flow a ton, I would not worry about it. I never ran one on my old setup and I did not even run a pressure regulator. If you opt for a more expensive one then I would say yes on the regulator and return line to keep fuel temps down and save wear and tear on your pump. Make sure to mount the pump close to the tank as possible, they are pushers not pullers. Mount a filter between the tank and pump, and don't buy the clear one with the mesh screen, they don't clean the fuel, they are mainly for looks, but if you get a clear one with a paper filter then that will work fine.

We get lots of decent paying loads locally so the rates are there, it's the brokers out on the road that screw things up when you try looking for a back haul. Only fell once from a flat bed, sometimes you get lucky. I guess my initial on-the-job trainin back in the late 70's hauling logs prepared me for the rest. You learn to pay attention otherwise you don't live long foolin with logs. Only reason I went back to flatbeds was my current employer, the yard is a mile from the house, all his truck are paid for (he buys used and refurbishs them) and we don't have "got to go" loads like it was in tankers. Me and the wife got fed up with workin 6 days a week and 12-14 days since the kid's gone off to the Marines. With this job, all I have to do to take off is let the dispatcher know a week in advance to take time off. We make enough between us to be comfortable and take time without pay if we choose.

Sounds like ya got a good job

If I ever have to drive again it`ll be something I can be home alot, I aint doing long haul trucking again. It was fun till I saw the country 3 or 4 times, then it wasn`t fun any more.

If you do, stay away from hauling fuel (gas and diesel) You'll be home every night, but you'll work your ass off 12-14 hrs a day with few days off. The companies that haul fuel hate trainin new drivers, that can take a month or up to 3-4 months to get "carded" at the fuel racks. And the work NEVER stops. The pay generally sucks too unless you can get with a company that pays by the hour.

If brokering holds together

I`m in this for the long haul, got an office built behind my house. I walk 80 feet to work. And the money aint bad, aint as good as it used to be a few years ago, but better then a factory job.

Effin brokers!!!!! Must be nice, work at home when you want. Work on car, chase the wife around the house.................. Repeat............. Got to do somethin like that sometime................. Did a little a couple years ago after gettin canned from the food grade tank job. Collected unemployment, sold parts online. Made three times what I did doin that than I did workin. Parts has fell off since with the rise in fuel prices.
