Okay, how do I tune this damn DPDIS?

I get detonation under load unless I run premium, and it's really starting to piss me off with premium up around $2.00/gal. I really have no idea where to start, I never see any info about it. Timing, I guess? No distributor to move around so I guess it'd have to be if the belt is off a tooth... Got any suggestions for stuff to try?

Clean the motor out with the old water trick...

Pull a vac line off the intake (like the fpr one) and put it in a bucket of water...make sure you have a hand on the throttle so you can keep it running...don't let it flood out.

When you run out of water your piston tops, valves, etc. will be as clean as new...no more detonation (maybe).

I had this occasionally with my DIS Ranger but it seemed to be related with air temp for me.
Hot humid days would do it with cheap reg gas but I ran next grade up 89 and it solved it.
Don't know what to suggest, maybe unhook battery for a few minutes.
You have an open air filter in the engine compartment?

That'll cause hydro-lock, stupid!

Everyone knows the best way to clean it is to burn off the dirt. drain your engine coolant and oil, and leave it redlined in neutral for about half an hour.

No, you only run the engine without oil when you are done draining it...start the motor to sling the oil off the crank (to get every last bit of old oil out).
