Alright...well it is a simple title but I have more to it than just wanting to know which are good replacement power windows...

Well slowly overtime my passenger power window has gotten slower to scroll up and down...so I know I'm going to need to replace it...how hard/what is involved when replacing the motor...is that all I would need to replace?

Another: Tonight after work I go to roll down my windows for no particular reason and noticed both windows would not roll down...the driver side went down 1/4 on inch and the passenger side did the same thing but slower... ...now I think I can attribute this to the COLD front that just came thru...this is by far the coldest night of the "winter period"...and I did wash my car before I parked the car at work and maybe some water got down somewhere on the motors/mechanics and froze up...I know my car had ice on the windows when I came out...so I'm not for sure if it is the weather or not...I guess I'll find out tomorrow...I never had this problem before...

Anyways what is a GOOD replacment that will last and roll up and down with the best of them...I don't want to skimp to much in this department :nice:

Also...out of curiosity and not to make another thread but here lately my power door locks when selected to lock will only lock the passenger side and everynow and then I have it will lock both the doors...to get it to work I have to "reset" the locking mechanism by pressing unlock/lock a couple times alternating and it will finally lock both of them...and I actually noticed I can't manually press the door lock "knob" down when it is doing this...so it tells me it is catching on something - enough to where I can't press it down myself? What would it be catchin on or that is getting loose?

Sorry for so long...but thanks for any answers/suggestions :)

i have vert experience, but not HB, so this is probably not worth much. :bang:

the motor (on mine) is held in with 3 bolts. take the inner door panel off and the 3 bolts are right there - out they come. i recommend having a helper hold the window glass - it is heavy and will crash down. :)

with the locks: i did not follow that real well (has been happening of late - i must be real tired). have you put a test light on the actuator connectors when it is working funky (and actually when it works right, for comparison)? stangs use, IIRC, 5 wire reverse polarity locks. the fact that the mechanical knob is hard to press suggests the actuators are locked up or getting pooey. the linkage is easy to see if the door panel is off.

if new actuators are used, i would recommend using Jrichker's retrofit. worked great for me and 3 bucks and change an actuator is hard to beat!

but i would chase it down that far - i am not sold that it is not the switch itself. does the pass switch work the same way?

lastly, if you want to test wires somewhat easily (or in mid run), go to the driver kick panel. at the top of it (but on the back side obviously) are the connectors for the locks. the predominant color in the wires is pink, as i recall (check schematics). but one can test juice at that point to see what is going (or not going) where.

good luck bud (and thanks for the reply on the modular sub-forum question i had. that thread did not do too hot. LOL). :nice;

Thanks buddy :) ...Yeah the 4.6L Tech section doesn't have much tech in it...it is about shifters/exhaust/wheels/ usually...and some think it is bad over here and not using the search :D ...

Thanks for that info...I'll have to look into that...and I bet if I remove the panels I'll figure out what is wrong...

Oh if I remember correctly the passenger side switch did the same thing...(it would close the passenger side but the driver side wouldn't close...so I would have to reset it and then the driver side and passenger side would go down)...

I figure I'll replace the whole window motors just for it to be one less thing I have to worry about later? Any good replacement or aftermarket window motors?

:nice:

Okay...I went out this afternoon and the windows are fine...it appears they literally froze up last night and thawed with the sun on them this morning...but I know eventually I'm going to need atleast a passenger side window motor (or whatever I'm going to need)...so what are good replacements?

i dont know the ins and outs of what motor is best - as i recall there are also hi torque motors and regular motors.

if you have to mess with the motors, i would perhaps take a look inside. brushes and gears often wear down. there are rebuild kits out there (LRS, et al, have them, as i recall). i say this in case money is tight and you feel industrious. :)

good luck bud. :nice:

Well money is tight (college student)...but I'm one of those "buy the whole enchilada" type people...but I still think I manage money well...if that is possible :)

Yeah I would like to know the differences between the high torque/regular motored ones? Is it just quieter? faster? etc...

Lol...doesn't appear this thread is doing to "hot" either... :nice:
