Old Gas Disposal?

I have recently purchased a 65 coupe project. The car has been sitting in a field for a number of years and as far as I can tell it hasn't been driven in a long long time. The plates have tags of '78 on them but I am sure it has been driven since then. Anyway my question is, what do I do with extremely old gas after I drain the gas tank? Think it would be safe to use in my lawn mower? I don't know of any places that dispose of gas.

Put a little in your lawnmower and test it out and see if it starts. If it starts fill her up and let her go. If not time to build the baddest campfire ever.

Mix it with new gas first. That old laquered up fuel may run in the mower at first, but after it sits it can glue the reed valves shut.

If you have a concrete driveway, pour the old gas on the driveway at Noon on a hot sunny day. It will evaporate very quickly. (Unless you're looking for excitement, don't let anyone with an open flame anywhere close until the gas is dry!)

i agree with the bon fire or use it for parts clenaer thats what we did just gotta watch the smokin if usin it for parts cleaner lol but we just put it in an old spray bottle works good

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll probably mix it with new gas for the lawnmower. I might even try the bonfire idea when it cools down in a few months.

i dont mean to be a party pooper lol but dont they sell stuff at like kragens that hardens old gas for disposal? im pretty sure ive seen stuff like that. maybe im wrong though i donno...

Put the stuff in a gas can you don't want, leave the top off. Then place something like one of those "1000" packs of black-cats under it, light the fuse and run for your life. And don't forget to film the whole thing.

Who owns a reed valve inducted lawn mower? Who MAKES one for that matter? I havent seen many 2 stroke lawn mowers. Gas THAt old would be stupid and suicide to put into any internal combustoin engine.

Bad idea #1. Mixing bad gas with new gas just gives you more bad gas than you had initially.

Bad gas brakes into 3 components: Liquid that looks like gas, Liquid that looks like milk, tiny clear jello globs that sink to the bottom and roll around like mercury. Those tiny jello globs will clog filters and will not fit through small openings. They will cause you endless grief in a lawnmower as it will run fine until it gets clogged with one of these globs. Then it stalls and restarts just fine (since the glob has fallen back into the tank) only to stall again 2 minutes later.

Call your town hall and ask when they have hazardous waste removal.

This is the best idea. Letting gas evaporate into the atmosphere is bad for the ozone layer, besides, the GBM might be driving by and you'd be in a world of sheets!

I know for a fact the gas is atleast 5 years old. I'll probably end up calling around. Not sure how much is actually in there. Its going to be a couple weeks till I drain it anyway. Thanks guys!!

Lawn Boy used to make two stroke mowers, but since the government cracked down on small engine polluters they're probably illegal to build. Good mowers too. ALmost impossible to find grass high enough to choke one down. Down side to them was mixing the gas and trying to start them

Yeah, I actually bought one of the last good ole Lawn Boy 2 strokes a year or so ago when the Depot had to get rid of them all. PITA to have a seperate 1 gallon gas can that I keep pre mixed just for it but as you say, it'll cut down anything in it's path pretty much.
