Was your posi burnt out when you ran the 15.1?? If so, you should break into the 14's with a new posi unit.

Also...were you doing the AOD shuffle?? I had a 4.10 in a 91 auto GT, and that thing shifted into 3rd at 4,700RPM....total killer. The AOD shuffle made it a raped ape. Car had HCI too.

That hurt me to watch. How long has it been since the rear end gears? Definitely should have at least rebuilt the TRACTION LOK at least when the gears were done. I'd say that should be your next mechanical effort on that car; one wheel peels are nothing but embarrassing, and you'll have much better launch from a working LSD.

P.S. I hate it when people call it a "posi". "Posi" comes from "Positraction", which is actually Chevrolet's trademark name for their early limited-slip differentials. Its a Mustang, not a Camaro, so please call it either a "traction lok", "trac-lok", or at the very least, just "LSD".

how do you know when your tracloc is going out. i know it will start doing one wheel peels, but how can you tell if its starting to go out. when i do my 5 lug im debating getting a rebuild and gears while i have the cover off the pumpkin. ideas?

I can assure you a non working trac-loc doesn't help with track times on a slower AOD car. Ask me how I know that one ...

The 'Lok doesn't just "go out" at random unless there is actual component failure. What really happens is that it slowly wears out with use, just like a piece of sandpaper. After a long life, it still might have some holding capacity, but probably not much.

If you've ever ridden in a fresh Trac-Lok car (especially one with the "modified" 8-friction rebuild rather than the stock 6), you'll know what a good working Trac-Lok feels like, as it will chirp a little during slow, tight turns, and give the car a more aggressive feel.

That said, I'm sure there is information on factory-specified overhaul time periods, but I have no idea what. Mine has been working great, and its been 3 or 4 years since I last rebuilt mine.

Yeah, I was really pissed when I saw the video after and saw that there was only one wheel doing it. I'm gonna do 3.73's so I don't run out of gear at the track. 4.10s are fine for now, but not when I get my KB.

But you gotta admit its still a pretty cool smoke show like 5.0Droptop said. lol
