So...I was drivin my car out to the race track Friday night and about half way there...my car started making a weird pinging noise. At first I thought something came loose under my car and was hitting on something. The noise started getting more and more common and repeatable the more I drove it though. When ever I would put the engine under load it would make the noise.
By the time I got to the track I knew something was ****ed with the engine...I thought maybe my distributor moved or something so I played around the timing and that lessened the sound to some extent. Seeing as that didn't fix it, I decided to limp it to a gas station to take a valve cover off. My rocker arms so far have had a BAD issue with coming loose...I hate the damn things. I thought maybe one of them worked itself loose enough that it just wasn't workin anymore....Once I got it to the gas station where I had some paper towel to work with, I pulled the PS valve cover off where I could hear a little more noise. The weird part about this is that the rocker arm was still held together somehow when I pulled the valve cover off. It wasn't until I turned the engine over a little bit more with the starter to get most of the tension off it that the rocker arm fell apart when I touched it!!
Heres the pics at the gas station while I was fixing it so I could limp it home....
I basicly just took the rocker arm/pushrod out for exhaust valve on #2 cylinder and then disconnected the spark plug wire and the harness for that injector and limped the car home on 7 cylinders. Needless to say...they are ALL coming out and getting replaced with better rocker arms.
BTW...don't buy crane cams roller rockers
