only starts on 2nd try

Same problem here, heard I needed to replace some relay for like $30? Don't have the cash though (kinda sad), not sure if that's even the issue, and I'm not sure what exactly that is..

Fuel pumps are resonably expensive though so I think I'll just deal with it for a while.. it's just more embarrasing/annoying than anything

which relay

what happens if you: rather than attempt to start the car, you turn the key to 'on', let it prime, turn it back off, then repeat. do this a couple times then try to start for the first time.

if it is a fuel pressure issue, the priming you do should allow it to start on the first try now.

excessive bleed off or lack of pressure can be the pump, check valve or regulator.

the relay someone suggested was probably a FP relay.

good luck.

could be a handful of things. explain what happens when you try and start it the first time. does it just sit there and struggle or does it go in and out??

well I turn the key to the on position wait a sec then turn it over to start it does the start sound but nadda, then I turn to off then try again then bam its on

HISSIN50 pretty much nailed it down......

Odds are the FP pressure regulator is weak...Had the same thing for years, more of a PITA than anything....plus you look like a drone cause you have this sweet looking stang that just cranks over... :bang:
Get in the habit of priming it 3 times before starting....she'll light pretty much every time...
I added a fuel pressure gage to mine...every time the key went off, instantly my fuel pressure would go right to 0.....thats the problem...no fuel pressure.
I swapped in a new pump...instant starts and when shut off, my FP gage stays put...
