open differential

I have a 1982 mustang with a open differential that I got for free. I'm tight on money and want a limited slip. Was wondering if I could use the spider gears and clutch plates from a limited slip vehicle from the wrecking yard. Then stick them into my differential. Or is there a kit for this?

If you can find a 8.8 Traction Loc in the junk yard, just rebuild it, slap your ring gear on it, and put it in your car. I don't *think* the open diff carrier will accept the parts to make it a LSD. Ford Racing sells a kit to rebuild Traction Locs, IIRC it's only $50 or so.

No. Not touching the pinion. Swapping the carrier wouldn't affect that relationship/dimension.

Yeah its the junk 7.5 not the beafy 8.8 rear. One of these years when it makes more than 250 hp I will up grade.

Oh, duh, good point. I wasn't paying attention to the year. In that case, 8.8" stuff won't work, correct?

Nope...he should prob just buy a 8.8 axle
