I have a set of brand new Nitto 555r DRs 275-40-17, someone in my club has a 3000 stall pi stallion convetor.

Would this be a good trade for me? I am in the market for a new TC, but was really looking to buy one that is 3600stall. Should I 'settle' for the 3000?

:SNSign: I need your help......

3600 would be an awful lot of converter... I've always been told that you want to select a torque converter that has a stall that is 700rpm lower than where your torque curve starts. My friend is picking up a 2500 stall for his Cougar, which should be perfect for the old NPIs.

Now thats where you'll get in a debate. Some say it is, some say go more.

I really do feel that you'll be satisfied with a 3000 stall.

Anything between 2800 and 3500, in my opinion, is good for a street car.

Well it depends on what you plan on doing with your car I guess.

It's a $700 or so part if I remember correctly, so what are those tires worth to you?
The tires only cost me $200.
I plan on fininshing up my exhaust with LTs, built bottom end, Getting stage 2 Heads, Stage 2 blower cams, building a custom TT setup, 31spline built rear with 3.73gear.
When will all these mods happen? Over the course of the next few years.

Another thing im wondering about... Why is it out of his car? He upgrade to a larger stall?

You'll have to get this installed which will probably run $200-$350 which isn't all that bad. You can always purchase more tires ;)

I got a response from him regarding this. He said took it off after he installed his Blower. He is waiting to swap to a 5speed.

Is there anyway for me to tell if the Converter is junk before I buy it and have it installed?
