Opinions Of Trick Flow "High Port" Cylinder Heads?

Any opinions on Trick Flow "High Port" cylinder heads? These are the original "Street Heat" heads. My concerns are how well built these heads are (ex. valve seats and guides). I will buy bare castings and add my other parts. I understand that they have patented valve spacing and raised exhaust ports. How do these compare to AFR 185's? I see that the TF's flow a bit more than the AFR's. Thanks for your help.

trick flow heads are all good heads to use regardless of style.

We used a set of the original cast iron street heats on a stock new 93 Mustang back in 94 and with the GT-40 intake, headers, E cam, and 65mm throttle body the car ran 12.70s on slicks and 13.00s on street tires......draw your own conlcusions. The seats are fine but if they are from the same era then the valve guides are a little on the weak side and I would replace them with hardened cast iron ones myself as it is a cheap and long lived upgrade.

I am looking at new parts. I heard that Trick Flow fixed that problem????

The raised ports will require different headers or exhaust modification since the exhaust ports are indeed higher. Take this into account in your purchase price.

I don't know if this helps, but with the Canfield headed 5.0 in my 89 Ranger, last year when I swapped motors to a stock headed 5.0, the exhaust bolted right back up, it was a tight fit but it did bolt back up. The Canfields have raised by 1/2" ports like the TFS heads have. My exhaust was bent with the Canfields in place. The ports just raise the headers up by 1/2 inch, but not out. Not a problem unless your exhaust is already close to the underside of the car.

TRUE- They have actually been owned by Summit for at least 2 years now. I bought my Trickflows from Summit after they priced matched an ad i saw in 5.0 magazine for some other company...they told me then that they had no problem matching the price because they owned TF. I ended up paying ~$960 for the heads to my door.

Trick Flows are great heads but flow numbers show that the AFRs are the best flowing heads on the market. They are 100% CNC ported.

AFRs are significantly newer/more expensive. And tests haev shown the difference to not be that great (Fordmuscle.com did a dyno test of them and like 6 other heads, the AFRs and TFs were in a dead heat for the best numbers).

TFS or AFR, either one are great heads.

Ronstang, what was the weight of that 93 Mustang when you raced it? High 12s - low 13s is impressive for those mods.

I have the cast iron high port heads. I had them ported and polished and I love them. I have about 90,000 hard miles on them and no trouble. 1 thing tho..since they are high port I couldn't find headers that would fit w/o hitting the firewall. I purchased a new set of the old style shelby cast iron headers and ported them to match the heads. I put a very small dab of high temp RTV on them and bolted them to the head w/o any gasket. no leaks yet!
