Opinions on Forged engine kits????

Hi all,

I have a 99 GT with a Vortech Supercharger installed. After the summer, I plan on putting forged insides in the engine. One of the kits I was looking at was this one.

Does this seem like a good kit. Does anyone have any other personal experiences or opinions on what might be a good approach to take. I haven't totally made up my mind on this part yet, but I was also looking at getting rid of the stock cams and possibly porting the heads.

Personally, I'd never order such vital components from someone on eBay.

Spend a little bit extra and go with one of the reputable names like VT or DSS. I went with the VT shortblock and I couldn't be happier with the motor and the service.

Wouldn't say the parts aren't reputable if you look around the same places your seeing VT, DSS, etc. you'll see Mahle mentioned but as stated you need to buy from someone reputable for sure.

Well I think he is trying to save money and is going to reuse his block.

make sure you price out all the other parts you will need. rings, bearings, gaskets, seals.

you may be better off like he says buying a shortblock and selling yours as is.

I have never heard of this brand but I come from like an old hotrod background.

says it what is in the cobra engine. I would do my homework before I bought.

VT does sell forged internals if you want to use your own block.

Mahle are awesome pistons. they are used in a lot of racing applications like formula one. however when ordering parts for my motor i tend to want to go with either a trusted company or buy local where i can actually see and feel the parts.

Bought mine here. A quality parts (Probe pistons, Manley Rods, Clevite 77 bearings, Fel-pro gaskets) and you still have the option to reuse your stock crank. Great for the guy who wants to build their own engine and not shell out twice as much money to have someone else build if for them.

unless you have experience building engines, i'd have a professional do it. i recommend buying from a company like VT engines or MPH.

I would email the guy about the rods. does not really say what they are. you would still have to balance this assemble and machine you block.

I am thinking the vt sr shortblock is a bit better deal if you don't want to go way over 500hp.

2495 complete includes balancing. By the time you have you block machined and this assembly balanced you will be getting pretty close to that. then you would still have assembly to do. this way you could off you existing enine for some cash.

If you are looking at having a shortblock built, Modular Performance is also a very safe bet. I know another very good modular engine builder as well, you can pm me for contact info.

Livernois has a forged stroker kit including balancing for 1895.

This ebay kit is from a decent company..Its Mustang Depot's Ebay name..They are fairly good to deal with!

I just seen one on there for $1710.00. Its still uses a stock crank. Mine is fine I wonder if they exclude it if they would lower the price?

just curious, how much boost are you making or are you anticipating to make that you would want to go w/forged components?

Before shopping around on parts.I would look at some of the goofd modular engine builders packages.

Most of the time by the time you buy the parts ,have the machine work done,buy tools you dont have etc.. A shortblock is a more viable avenue.Esp since you can buy a prebuild motor while still driving yours now.
This also saves on down time.

Steen racing,modular performance,VT,renagade racing and boss 330 (al)all build some nice PROVEN mod motors
