My dad bought me some wax as a gift..and it's Turtle Wax. He wants me to help me wash and wax the Stang and all, any opinions on if this is a bad idea for the paint or anything or if it will look like crap? It's this Turtle Wax Spray-On Carnuba Wax stuff, I think. Sorry I'm a n00b at this, just need some car help. :)

EDIT: No offense to all of you car-holics, but I don't wanna waste hours on my car with like a 'clay bar' then like Meguiars 14 then 28 and 19 or something. I just want a product that I can use in a fairly quick amount of time to get a good shine. Is Turtle Wax that product?

I wouldn't call any time spent mainatining your paint or the car in general a waste but, some like to spend more time at it than others. It is more of an investment, the more you put in the longer it is gonna last.

Sure Turtle wax will give you a decent shine as pretty much any wax will. If you use it frequently you will probably be more than happy with it. There is no way though that a single step spray on wax will ever come close to the looks, protection and durability of a multi step system. It all comes down though to what you are willing to spend in time and money. If the spray on wax makes you happy than go with it, it isn't going to hurt your paint.

Here a couple of pics of my GT with Meguiars #7 show car glaze topped with #26 high tech yellow wax.

The only thing so far Ive tried from turtle wax that Im absolutely happy with is their color magic car polish. It was the only thing I could find that will successfully(with an orbital polisher)hide scratches and swirl makrs. Ive tried everything else. Not to say that makes turtle wax the best, however, its done best for me in terms of price and application.

Its like Rjstaaf stated. I would NOT call professional detailing a complete waste. Again, nothing will beat a multi-step system. The Meguiars number 9,7, and 26 has been one of the best combos used by many car detailers for years. If you dont have any scratches, swirls, or oxidation your worried about removing/hiding and no paint conatiminants your worried about removing, then a one step wax would probably be fine. As Rjstaaf also stated, the more you use it, the happier you will be with it. Remember, NO WAX OR POLYMER is going to last "forever" and make it so you dont "ever again have to detail your car". The average car should be waxed at least 3-4 times a year and washed at least once every 10 days.

Oh man...you guys really take your detailing seriously here! I really didn't have any harsh intentions when I said waste, I just don't wanna devote all that time with that much detailing!

Yeah, everyone here gets serious about detailing. :rlaugh:

Seriously though, I see where your comming from. No one I dont think wants to do all that work. Since you got the turtle wax for as a gift, give it a try. See what you think. If you like it, then all the better for you. :nice:

I tried that 1-step Turtle wax stuff and was VERY disappointed with the results. Easy to apply,a pain to clean off,it left a light haze on all the flat surfaces. I'd say use some of the polisher/waxes from Meguires or Mothers. Just my 2 cents.

I used that carnauba turtle wax, it was ok but I found it really hard to remove. BTW. ur not the only one who's not anal about detailing, actually I prolly got you beat... I just wash it once a week at those coin places, and yes i use THEIR brush, been doing this for a looong time and there's no scratches or scuffs on my car... I just don't like getting all sweaty and stuff cleaning the car, when for a couple quarters and ten minutes a week it looks just fine. I'll wax it like once a year and it has to be really cold outside (i live in TX)
