OPTIMUM Predator Tune

Hey guys sorry to bring up an old subject per say, but I just purchased a predator for my 01 2v. The predator tune supplied with the unit was an excellent seat of the pants feel compared to stock, I'm anxious to see the #'s. Pulls very hard ALL through the rpm range.

I have searched posts and other sites etc. and have heard different setups work better than others, etc. I am a little apprehensive about messing with the timing until I know a little more about it. My main goal for this thread is to find the optimum timing setup which you all have found with your stangs, especially with very mild boltons.

I have k&N drop in, ported plenum, dorman intake manifold (aluminum crossover), flow 40's. I run only 93 octane now and I want the best tune with safeguards from detonation/pinging as my main concern. Houston, sea level, hot as hell, etc.
Please give me some input guys-THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I understand that completely, but I dont have the time or money right now to do so. I just wanted to see some of the optimum settings discovered through testing and tuning by others who have done this. But thank you very much for the response. Anyone else?

problem is every car reacts differently even with the same mods (hypothetically speaking) due to many, many variables.

but here are examples:

some have used the diablo tune and maxed out timing on both RPM ranges with good results.

some only bump the timing up bwtween 14-16.

i know a guy who has the factory tune but with timing maxed out to good success.

others richen the AFRs with maxed out timing.

but suffice it to say, most of them tune, listen then make changes accordingly. if it pings, time it back abit until it goes away.

rule-of-thumb is, if u hear/feel bad things with the car that wasn't there before, back off that tune abit and keep backing off until the bad things go away.

I use the Factory Tune with timing maxed and 93 octane. I had run the predator tune with timing maxed also before with no issues. My car seems to pull harder with the factory tune and timing maxed.

I have all of the basic bolt-ons on a '99 GT.

Keep in mind that your timing is only maxed at WOT. Although, with the predator tune your timing is also increased a bit all around which is why they want you to use higher octane. You should be fine with it maxed, but listen for any strange noise at WOT. If you are worried about it, then just leave the timing as-is.

I got similar results to those in the article, but had to pull about 2 degrees in the 4000-5000 RPM range from the diablo tune in order to eliminate pinging on 87 octane. I did not experience a peak power gain, but picked up 6-8 ft-lbs from 2000-4000 RPM and 5-9 HP from 5200 up. This resulted in a much broader power band AND better low end response without having to go up to 91 octane which is about 40 cents/gallon more in Canada.
