orange and brown wires on tach?????

i've had my tach for a while and it reads wrong, it idles at 1600 and hits 10k when i floor it, i think its set up for 4 or 6 cylinder, i unwrapped some of the tape on it and there are 2 orange and 2 brown wires cut, anyone know where these are suposed to go?? or what they connect to??

Those should be the cylinder jumper wires. For most tachs, as I recall, you cut one wire for a 6 cylinder, 2 wires for a 4 banger, and leave all wires intact for an 8 cylinder. Try reconnecting them and see if your tach now reads right.

damn 5 months using a wrong reading tach, and all it needed was 2 little wires reattached

Does the tach read right now? If so, cool.

It is not uncommon for people to get hung up on that so dont feel bad. The bad news is that you dont have that 10K RPM screamer you might have desired.

Must have been in a 4 cylinder car at one time .....Mine does the same thing but, my orange and brown wires arent cut it worked perfect for a year and then started randomly "becoming a 4 cylinder" and if i gave it a little smack on the side of the tach it would return to normal. Now it does it 99% of the time so i have to set my shift light to like 10k just so it doesnt go off

YUP IT READS RIGHT, YEA NO MORE SHOWING THE HONDAS THEY ARENT THE ONLY ONES WHO CAN TAKE IT TO 10K

what did the stock rpm gauge read when it was at 10k??? J/W

Mine does the same thing, mine is about double of the correct rpm...10k is realy about 5k on my stock tach
