Ordered a TV tonight

Nate I was thinking the same thing. Be like thanks for buying this expensive cable for me. I'm not that mad about it, I think what it came down to was mine was shipped from LG directly I believe. Possibly from out of state. Most likely if it would have been one QVC had in stock the cable would have been added to the shipment and all would be well. We've never had a problem with QVC before and my parents have bought MANY things from there. The customer service people I talked to were very nice. I would still recommend them to anybody

Mark that didn't help me at all. i still don't know WTF I need lol.

I have seen people mention on reviews for home theaters that switching to a better cable solved issues they were having, maybe that's what they were talking about in that article.

My plans are a PS3 hooked up with HDMI. For the time being it will probably be hooked directly to my TV. I hope to at some point pick up a surround sound setup that I will be "passing through". With that said what do you recommend for cables?

The thing I have found about cables...

Use the best type of cable you can...and who cares about the brand...

HDMI High Speed > HDMI Standard > DVI > Component Video > S Video > Composite

As for audio...

Digital Coax > TOS-link Optical > Stereo

The Digital Coax uses an orange jack that looks really similar to a regular old RCA jack...
The TOS-link is a weird looking D-shaped connection that use a fiber optic wire...
Stereo is stereo, red and white RCAs...

Thing to remember:

HDMI will carry video and sound both...

So, you can have a single cable for each HDMI device...which is awesome...

As an example, my Wii has four cables...video, two stereo cables to TV, and TOS-link optical audio to receiver...while the rest of my home theater (Blu-Ray, DVR, receiver, TV) has the same exact number of cables...the reduction in clutter alone if you can go to all HDMI is worth the price, IMHO...

So you have the extra wii cable going to a speaker system? I was wondering how i was gonna set that up when i got to that point

I was unsatisfied with my one purchase from monoprice. My TV doesn't have RCA audio output, only TOS-link, and my receiver of course only has RCA input. My multimedia player has Component, RCA, and HDMI. Everything else plugs right into the stereo including the cable box, so no problem there. I wanted to use the HDMI cable on the multimedia player for max picture quality. I got a TOS-link to RCA converter from monoprice, and it sucked. The sound was barely audible even with the volume on the stereo turned all the way up, and in most cases it was patchy, so I sent the damn thing back to them. I found out after I plugged the multimedia player into the router and updated it, that I could run HDMI and RCA simultaneously with the latest update.

I have an older 50" Samsung plasma I bought back in 2007. Ive had zero issues with it and image retention at all. I play a lot of PS3 on it to...especially COD where certain game display are always on screen and have yet to notice any burn in at all. I was worried about it when I first bought the tv, but now 4 years later I don't even think twice of hitting pause for an hour to go grab dinner.

Of course....next tv I buy will be LED. Just waiting for price to come down a tad. 50" will go in my bedroom

There is reason for my weird Wii setup...

My receiver has video switching, so everything should run through it...

But, I use my Wii on two different TVs...and am too cheap to buy another Wii video cable...so I actually plug the Wii right into the TV...because there is no way I am unhooking that sucker form the receiver when I want to use it in the basement...

Then I have the TOS link cable from the TV out back to the receiver to get the sound from the Wii to the stereo...so I don't have a wire directly from the Wii to the receiver, if that makes sense...

Lol, I just got my Wii component cable off ebay for $5.95 shipped. Allowed me to set up the Wii on my HDTV and get a bit better picture with 480p instead of the standard 480i

Yeah I know...

I actually have the upgraded cable. I think it cost me like $20 when I got it at Wally World eons ago...So that is good.

I had the "nice" cable in the basement. Don't know why, since it's the kids TV...but it is what it is...

I had my crappy cable running through the stereo like it is supposed to. So that was good.

Then, I moved the stereo, snagged the nicer cable from the basement and took it upstairs. I had not played my Wii in a while, so I was a bit surprised that IT WAS NOT EVEN HOOKED UP ANYMORE...

No cable...just sitting there next to the TV...hmmm...

Of course, the kids have not touched it in like 100 years...go figure...

So, although I use the "I am cheap" as an excuse, the sole reason for that is because since my kids lost the stupid cable, I am not going to pay to replace it. I am cheap like that...

If they want to play it in the basement, they get the honor of unhooking and moving everything...maybe next time they won't lose the stupid cable...

That's my thought process anyhow...
