I need a little help from the history buffs. My 65 FB is almost completely original. Instead of building it up, I'm thinking, for value reasons, I want to make it All original, as it is a C code. As I understand it, the first Fastbacks were produced in October of 64, and this car is date coded Oct. 64. So being that this is potentially one of the first Fastbacks ever produced is why I would like it to be original. Anyways, the the engine has an weiand stealth intake and holley 4bbl right now.

I need to know what are the casting numbers for an early 65 FB intake manifold, and what 2 bbl carb. would return the car back to the original specs. Also, the car has a rally pac, it appears to be original, but did the Rally Pac come as an option on the C code? The only other thing I need is to replace the headers with manifolds on the exhaust, but I may wait to do this as the exhaust is new.

You need to look for an intake thats date coded before your car's build date, if you want to do it right. The casting # will be something like C4OE-9424-A ( not sure as to the exact casting # for a 289 2 bbl intake, just making a guess) The date code will need to be something like 4K1-thru-31 or earlier. Can't tell you what the carb #'s are, but it will be difficult to find one that old that's still in working condition. Unless you like hunting parts ( I do) you'd be best off just buying a remanufactured one from one of the Classic Foord suppliers.

The Ford part # for the intake is probably either
C4AZ-9424-J, Bore Size 1.60" and Port Size 1.82" x .90"
C3AZ-9424-H, Bore Size 1.56" and Port Size 1.82" x .90"

There are more than a couple of possible Autolite 2100 series carburetors that my have been used.

Keep in mind when looking for an intake that those are PART numbers, not the CASTING numbers. There IS a difference between the two. I've had many people inquire about parts I had that were correct for their cars, but wouldn't buy them because the CASTING number didn't match the PART number they were looking for.

Notice here that the casting # is different from the part # on the box. Before bidding you would need to find out the date code on it though if you really wanted one that's correctly date coded for your car.

Pony Carbs is a great resource for identifying the correct carb, and oh yeah, they'll sell you one too. I've seen some folks that don't like them but they set up a 2100 for me that has been great. Not cheap, but great.

Thank you for all the info. Can anyone answer my question about the rally pac. Was it an option on the C codes? Like I said it looks original but who knows???

Doc, thanks for the heads up on that auction. I e mailed him to find out the date code.

The guy e mailed me back on the date code. He said it is 3G10.
Would this be a correct intake manifold for an early Fastback??

Hard to say there, a 3G10 would be July 10 1963, more than a year before your car was built. The Casting # would be correct, but the date code wouldn't. Your call, how correct do you want your car to be?

Rally packs were a dealer option / factory . But I have no clue when they were started as an option. I know 65 and 66 they were but am unsure about the early 65

The C code isnt anything rare or special, just a 289 2bbl. Do what you want with the car, its a fastback, thats what gives it the value. As long as youre tasteful with your upgrades and modifications and dont make any foolish modifications that cant be reversed youre not going to kill the value.
