I come home from my military exercise, hop into my car, it seems to start fine. About 5 minutes after driving, I notice that first gear still feels okay, if not a little weak, but second gear is horrible, it's hesitating and jerking and when I finally brought it up to higher RPM's just to see if I could burn off whatever was making my car run so horribly, it let out a backfire on acceleration. It's like this in 2nd and 3rd gear, I really haven't tried my 4rth gear because I babied the car to my place and didn't do the regular speeds.

Any suggestions on what could have happened? It's killing me, seems this car has a new problem every week, and they're getting worse all the time

Welcome back dude,
That always sucks when the car runs like crap out of nowhere. Sounds like maybe it developped a vaccume leak after sitting for all of 10 days
Does yours still have the EGR vavle on it? That might have got stuck somehow or started leaking. How does it idle? And does it rev normally in neutral under no load?

Check to make sure there's no moisture in the distributor cap? Probably not the problem, but it can't hurt. And it gives you a chance to check for corrosion on the terminals too. Mine sat for the winter and had some ugly crud on the terminals inside the cap, where the rotor fires. Cleaned it off and the idle smoothed out considerably. Just a thought! :SNSign:

just checked the connections and cap, no problems....i'll have to get the codes read and find out what's what

Edit: stephane, do you know anyone in town who runs codes for cheap or less?

If your idle is even a little lumpy, I would run a cylinder balance test while pulling codes. I've had a miss before that was largely unfelt at idle with no load, but as soon as a load was applied, I felt it.
The backfire suggests one cylinder not firing - maybe the CBT can pick it up.

Good luck Aaron.
