if we go up a steap hill like up larch mountian the explorer will over heat and when we went to the beach we went up threw the neighborhood in astoria and it over heated again? i can let it set for hours on end ideling, sit in traffic, drive around town here and nothing? it only seems to happen when going up steep hills? any ideas? it's a 92 4.0 with an auto. tranny :bang: . it over heats threw the raditor cap it's never blown a gasket or anything like that. but then again the temp gauge dont read hot either when this happens? peace

BTW who was it that posted that site for explorer's on here? can you repost it for me please?

is it over heating or just bolwing off the radiator cap. if its just blowing off the radiator cap and not really overheating it might be as simple as the cap is trash its not holding the pressure its supose to. when the coolant sys get hot it pressureizes to help with the boling temp if the cap blow off at 8psi instead of 16 i think is for american cars the car will start boiling the coolant at 220 or 240 but that wont read very hot on the gauge just a little over ave witch is near 210 in a lot of american cars.

Get a temp gauge with the readings in numbers. Ford's temp gauges suck! My 90 Ranger 4.0L always reads cold unless it's 85+ and I'm running the A/C. Not very accurate.

The fan clutch is another high failure item, can you hear it engage when it gets hot?
kinda not shure what youre talkin bout? the fan is ran off the engine like the old cars. i thought they only rev. up when you rev the engine? but no i cant hear it rev unless i rev the engine. what do these cost? i'll go check again today tho for shure. peace
