coolant reservoir questions

Ok i got a hold of some extra 10 ga. t-304 polished stainless at work, and i made me an overflow tank, i have never liked where the stock one was anyhow.

My question is, if it is airtight will it allow fluid to be pushed in it, or even allow the fluid to be sucked back up by the radiator when needed.... I can put fittings or whatever i need to on it, just kinda need to know what to do......

Does it need a vent, i already bought a drain ****, so that i can empty it.

Wouldn't it be best to locate the fitting for the coolant hose on the bottom of the thing so that it would recirculate easier.....i could also run some small diameter stainless tubing from the bottom to a fitting on top if need be, i have some of that as well.... 3/8 diam....

just a lil help needed if anyone knows.....

thanks.....

If it's air tight you will get a vacuume not a big one but a lil one. if you look at the stock one there is a small vent hole right under the rim on the top.

Yep, agreed with Brandon. I would have it vented at the top. I would also use it as a bottom feeder. With top feeders (where you have the tube feeding from the top), if you lose vacuum in the cap on the reservior or in the rubber line, it cant suck fluid. Bottom feeders are simpler in this regard.

Sounds cool man. Post pics when you are done.

i'd suggest making it as close to stock specs as possible--vent hole and bottom fed.

i don't have the resources to roll the stainless etc. as the canton is, i was actually planning on getting rid of the sensor...... car is becoming far from a daily driver so i always check oil, water etc. before driving, or before going far......lol

they did have one on that site that looked to be about what i have in mind, my first one didn't turn out right, so i am on the second design, when i finally make something work i will post it up...... Kind of want to put it where the battery was.....
