Overheating and measuring

ok so my car overheats but it gets cool after i let it idle for like 1min.
car has new Stewart Stage 1 Water Pump, 160* thermostat, and a new stock radiator.. i know i need a bigger radiator but i cant really afford it right now.. i bought a new air deflector to put on so hopefully that helps a little.. so other than a different radiator what else could be my problem?

also i was wondering how exactly do you measure the size of a TB and a MAF? do i just measure from one side to the other?

What temps are you seeing? It cant go from overheating to 'cool' in one minute.

i dont have a "real" gauge but it gets up to L where my stock one reads 'normal'

I'm thinking that your thermostat is installed incorectly.
Or bad, lol, wouldn't that stink. Make sure you got it in the right way, my buddy did that! Almost fried his car.

SOmething is off because your car is the hottest while it is sitting around idleing. It will be the coolest on the highway. Unless you have an aftermarket body kit, then the inverse could be true.

yep real fast ... most of the time sometimes i have to turn it off with the hodd up for like 5-10 mins
i made 110% percent sure it was installed the right way.. bad? i dont know i was going to get a 180* anyways.

Perhaps your A/C condenser is plugged with bugs and such and is 'helping' to limit the airflow into your radiator.

i did about a month or so ago.. got 113, 542, and another one that had to do with the EGR but i forgot the number.

I doubt that if the car is up to the "L", that turning it off and putting the hood up for 5-10 mins would cause it to drop to cool. Perhaps your temp gauge sender (not the ECT) is bad. Or the wiring. Does your fan turn on when it gets super hot? If not, then perhaps it's not super hot and the temp gauge sender is bad.

Turning off the car would just cause it to heat soak, and the lack of coolant flow would offset the lack of heat production (ignition).
