OverHeating Don't know whats up

I have a fully built 302, compression lower to 8.5:1 blah blah The problem is when i'm on the highway it gets to 200ish water temp. When i'm in stop and go traffic the thing wants to ping up to 230ish. I turned my heat on full blast and go it to lower down. Well I took it out later that night and I got in it like a mother. Needless to say it was about 70ish, and it would go up to 200 but then drop back down to 185. I think it maybe the fan. I have a flex a lite Thin series on there with no shroud. I have a 2 core fluidyine (spelling) radiator. The fan I have on there now from what I got from flex a lite flow 2,000 CFM. I was thinking of getting a SN95 fan OR get a Mark VIII fan. Yes I have replaced the thermostat with 180. I'm going to get the radiator flow check tomorrow. Its 2 inch thick 24 inches long and 17 inches high. Would the 3 core from napa be better cooling wise?

the guage I'm going by is autometer c2 guage

Welcome to the boards! Is this a forced induction vehicle?

I'd agree that at a minimum your fan situation needs to be addressed. Also, do you have any sort of air deflector under the car?

what year mark 8 fan should I get.. I want the fan that flows the most CFM

also what tools do i need to bring to the junkyard to take it out?

If you look under the car (from the front), find the area below the radiator. There should be a piece of plastic going across there. It's like a 15 dollar item if you need one.

I haven't pulled a Mark VIII fan off a J/Y car so I dont know what all you need. One would certainly think that a cheap socket kit (with metric and SAE sockets) and a couple of short screwdrivers would work (I have a J/Y kit that comprises that stuff, plus a multitool for cutting wires, the need for pliers, etc).

any certain year I should look for MK8 wise? wasnt there a year that they made the fanest the strongest? (pulled the most cfm) of was all the years the same 93-98?

also the air deflector is on the sides of the radatior correct? If so I only have one on the passenger side

think you said that it is an electric fan, if so, check the polarity. If it is reversed it will push the air back into the radiator as opposed to pulling the air out. A good friend recently had that happen to him, he tried everything and I suggested my simple fix it actually worked. Anyway good luck, and keep us posted
