My 86 GT has been overheating once sitting at idle or traffic after a short period of time. when i drive on the highway the car doesnt run hot at all and this is in 70 degree weather. i dont know when the coolant has last been flushed but it looks ok. i dont know if or when the thermostat or water pump has been replaced. Any simple things i can check for? The cooling system is completely stock. Thanks for any info?

you either have a restriction in the radiator, cracked fan blades, or a faulty fan clutch. start the car, shut it off, then walk and see if the fan is still spinnning when you get to the front, if so you probably have a bad clutch. may see some oil coming out of it to.. HOPE this helps get you pointed in the right direction

Agree with above. Overheating at idle is a clear indication of a fan problem (especially since it cools off at speed). Replace fan clutch or upgrade to an electric fan.
