It is supposed to be 113* this Sunday here in Phoenix and already my car is hot. I have a 65 stang,289,195* thermostat, a 2 row Griffin rad,and a electric fan. It has always ran 195- 198 until I did a mod. I am installing an A/C. After I put on the condenser in front of the radiator it gets hot going down the highway. After I finish installing the A/C and turn it on I'm sure it will be way too hot. What do I do?? Install a 180* thermostat? Or maybe a new fiberglass apron that has the area where the license plate normally goes removed. Maybe that will provide me with the extra air flow I need. I already have in antifreeze, distilled water and Water Wetter. Please help me....

I'd try a 180 thermostat, got one in my 67 in the nice muggy FL humidity, worked well.... Then, do you have a fan shroud? Also, why is the condensor in FRONT of the radiator? Try relocating it and see if it helps. Just suggestions.

A/c cars came factory with a 3 row rad, 4 row is better.

You prolly have a 4 blade fan right now...get a 6 or 7 from a big block mustang or thunderbird, DO NOT get some cheap flex fan, they are crap.

Run a fan shroud

Run a 180 degree t-stat

I did have a flex fan with a shroud that always worked great. I now have an electric fan from hot rod air. It has its own shroud. It cools great at stop and go traffic. The problem is when I am going down the highway. The A/C condenser was built to be located in front of the radiator like most of the cars are. I wish It could be located somewhere else. That would mean new hoses $$. But might not have any other choice. What do you guys think about the fiberglass apron w/ the large opening in front where the license plate normally is?

I live in AZ too, and did the Vintage Auto Air thing a few years ago. I installed a 4-row radiator when I installed the A/C, and it's never run cooler. I could idle in Hell forever with the A/C on and it would still run cool.

The clearance between my fan motor and water pump pulley is so close that it is tough to get my fan belt between the two when I put it on. My Griffin radiator is a 2 row but it cooled better than my stock 3 row standard radiator. I also e-mailed them to see how much the cooling difference would be between my 1" tubes and the 1.5" tubes and how much thicker that rad would be. I will have to resolve this one way or another even if I have to get a bigger radiator.
