Okay, Fiance's new car. 2000 Vert, V6, Auto, 169k on the clock. Had it for all of 4 days. This afternoon it throws a CEL. I don't have an ODBII scanner yet, so I took it to autozone and they pulled a P0402 code.

Now, everything that he showed me said EGR this EGR that...but I've done some digging and the DPFE looks to be a common culprit for EGR problems. Would I be better off replacing the DPFE or are there tests I can do to further narrow it down?

This new car makes me really miss a simple distributor....and no smog equipment....or catalytic converters....heh.

Pretty much same story...

I picked up a 2001 V6 for my daughter.

The dang thing had all sorts of codes at first.

I ended up with a DPFE, plugs, wires and a new coil pack. It idles at about 700 rpm now!

This is a mjor problem all across the Ford brand, DPFE's are junk, Ford said they revised them after they figured they were junk. Buy new Ford OEM part, not a car parts store brand since they are just copies of the original junk part
