Has anyone used a Painless Wiring kit? I need to rewire my 67 coupe because of some idiot "tried" to install an alarm in it. Does all the connectors come with it, mainly the ignition switch connector.

Also Im a newbee. Why are there extra connectors in behide the dash? I know pics would be better but Im at work so... The car had AC but none of the connectors that are loose look like they have not been connected in years. Thanks for the help

With a painless kit you're rewiring the whole car, (tail lights, gauges, engine compartment) which may or may not be a bad thing????? It also allows for aftermarket additions such as electric fans, upgraded stereos and such. I've heard people swear at them and by them.

I have a painless kit for a 68 that I'll be installing in about 6 weeks (hopefully) It's not complicated, but will require a lot of work. I've read the instructions and they seem reasonable, but I guess we'll see.

It sounds like you'd be better off just installing an underdash repro kit from one of the vendors. The nice thing about this is that you can use the available wiring guide as a reasonably good reference.

I also have a painless kit, but my car is very far from the point when I'll install it. I also have the kit for the fuel injected 5.0 stuff, from painless. If I go windsor, I'll use that, along with an aftermarket computer, like an AEM. If you need pictures, let me know.

The painless kit is a very good kit I recommend them.
If you know very litlle about wireing I suggest that you learn alittle more after you buy the kit. it requiers some knowlage about wireing.

Are you asking about the mustang specific kit, or the universal kit? Either way the painless kit does not come with the igniton switch plug. At least it did not a few months ago when I was looking for one. If you need a plug you can go two ways, buy an ignition switch that comes with one or use normal electrical "bullet" connectors and slip them over the pins on your existing switch. I ran my car that way until a member on here offered me an unused pigtail for free. If you need more info I can check for pics when I get home.

Oh and if you are looking at the universal type wiring harness from Painless then I suggest that you also check out E-Zwiring. Same quality as Painless, much lower price. They are a smaller company than painless so they may not be as easy to get ahold of for help. However I can tell you from personal experience Painless isn't exactly a treat to deal with.

I agree with 68rustang, the universal kit was painful. If you get the mustang specific kit it will be easier, plug and go. Although, sin I have the experience with the first universal kit, I'm not scared to try it again, I'm doing a universal E-Zwiring kit (cause its cheaper) in my 63 Falcon.

I have a question ABOUT THE "MUSTANG" KIT


wILL IT WORK ON A 70? I DIDNT SEE ANY 69-70'S LISTED ON THE SITE.....

I would venture to guess no.

It will "work" but it will not be a direct replacement. I would suggest you call Painless and ask them.

Im in the middle of my install and its going smoothly. If you can read directions you can install this kit.

Yes but will it work on a 70 is my question...

Also does it come with a way to add accessories later if i wanted?

also i will be mounting my battery and starter solinoid in the trunk....will this cause problems with the mustang made kit?

I just finished installing a universal 12 circuit EZ Wire kit in my hot rod. I'm seriously thinking of putting the same one in the coupe.

The fuse box is compact, all the wires are well marked and colored, and it worked really well in the rod. I used a Mustang column and ignition switch and had match the GM/generic color code to the Ford wiring, but it worked really well.

The only thing I didn't like was the goofy mounting buttons on the fuse box, but I used velcro in the hot rod. And the blinkers are just hanging on plugs, so you'd have to use the stock blinker clips.

I don't have power windows or a bunch of other gizmos, so the basic kit will work well for me. I'd just make a small panel to pass the wires thru the firewall. The stock Mustang ammeter won't work with this kit without figuring out how to wire it separately. I'm using a GM alternator on the rod, but this would also make it a lot easier to add the 3G that we're going to be using.

It was only $110 from the vendor on Ebay and he sells these pretty regularly. The Painless stuff is nice, but if you don't mind cutting wires and attaching your own end terminals, this is an economical alternative.

So far I dont see why you couldnt use it. Yes there is one extra relay circuit. I think you would have to do something differnt about the battery cables. I would call painless since they are the experts.

I just finished intsalling the painless system. Time consuming, but exactly correct for my 67. Each line cleary marked, instructions were great and had no problems whatsoever. Each line was the correct length. Highly recommend.
