painting a 4.6

Are you sure you haven't seen one painted?;)

They look really good painted. I suggest you put on a couple of coats of clear coat which makes it easier to clean.

If you think you are sure that you haven't seen one painted, check out that PM I sent you awhile ago on my engine. It is painted.:D

When I recently installed my cams and had the timing cover off--I thought about painting the front cover since I painted the valve covers while they were off. The thought of degreasing/cleaning/prepping it changed my mind though :rlaugh: I just wanted the car back up and running.

yeah i know the feeling..... i was thinking about sandblasting the front cover, then painting it with self etching primer, i think that will hold the paint good

I think a Ford blue engine with black "tins" would looks great (even if the tins on our cars are composite)

back in the dawn of time (70s and 80's) I had pretty good luck just cleaning the heck out of the engine and painting it with regular, old engine paint...but it was probably more toxic back then and worked better...

I went over the top on 2 different occaisions back in the 80's when I was doing car shows. In one case I had the block hot tanked, primed it and painted it a basecoat white pearl. I then used masking tape for pinstripes and fogged on a light orange candy. The I peeled the tape off and shot the whole thing a yellow candy and urethane cleared it. It held up real well. In the other, more radical one, I ground all of the casting off of the block and heads, polished the whole ireon block, primed it, used a silver base coat with lots of flake and shot candy apple red over the base. I cleared it as well.
both of these engines were small block chevies, and they had all the chrome headers, polished tunnel ram etc, etc.
Way, way too much work for me these days.
