Painting calipers, any tips?

I think im set of Ferarrie Red, its a very nice color and should bring in another attention point on the car, kind of suttle, but still noticeable.

I plan on buying high temp paint of course, but is there a min. tempature rating I should go for? I think 500 or so is what Im gonna try and find. Im gonna clean the calipers with some Simple Green and something abrasive to get all of the crap off, then spray the paint onto some cardboard or something and brush it on instead of removing the calipers or masking off everything under there.

Anyone else have any tips?

Its white, wich is probaly the big reason im not gonna mask off and spray away. If I didnt mask a spot, its gonna be real noticable, lol.

Go for G2 Caliper paint. I got the red Bullitt calipers for the front and I used the G2 on the rears...can't tell the difference between the two. It brushes on and there's more than enough for a full set. I got it from Tire Rack...it was more than the DupliColor kit but well worth it.

Another thing you could do is buy refurb calipers at AutoZone, paint those, and then swap them real fast to prevent air intrusion into the brake lines. I would suggest installing speed bleeders in the new calipers if you do this.

lol i just used "farm equipment" red paint from true value on top of some primer. worked well and has never flaked due to heat.

just take your time doin it. if you're painting it on (i did), make sure you're not in a rush and it will come out nicely.

Ill probaly just be picking up something from Advanced or Autozone, its kinda a budget mod kind of thing, haha.

How would air get in the lines if im not removing the caliper? Im confused now...

Just mask em off real well and spray.

I did my calipers silver to match my car. I used black caliper paint for the bridges but couldn't find a good color silver i liked so i used silver ENGINE paint. It has held up fine for 2 years. What i did was clean the brakes well using brake cleaner and then mask off. Results were great. I did the front and rears silver w/black bridges.

You will not get air if you do not disconnect calipers.

YES! The lazy way, cool, I am not the only really lazy person on the board, I did mine the same way. This way is the easiest as it involves the least work with the wrench. Good luck, and my only suggestion is to get the HIGHEST rated temp paint you can find. Get 1200 degree if you cant, cause the cans lie, and you would be lucky if the 1200 lasted to 400 degrees.

Just pick up some caliper paint from like walmart it comes with a spray caliper cleaner and paint for like $15. Ill post pics this weekend when I do mine.

I just bought a kit for like $10-$20 with caliper paint, brush, and brake cleaner to remove dust/grease. I didn't even mask off, I just painted carefully and used an old water color brush for the edges, took probably half hour per side. Paint on is the way to go if you're not going to remove the calipers from the car - masking everything off (including your inner, and outer fender, K member, springs, control arms, etc.) is too time consuming imo.

Get some Dupli-Color Caliper paint at Autozone or any auto parts store and brush it on. I didn't have to mask anything.

I bought caliper spray paint from discount auto. Taped everything off and had no problem. Just take your time with tape. I used red on my silver GT and I think it looks awsome.

Somebody on this site saw a picture of them and said it was a bad idea because the paint can trap in heat and make the brakes hotter. But I think that is BS

Btw, on that Dupli-Color Caliper paint kit I bought. (Shown above) It was brush on and it included the brush, and caliper cleaner. One kit is more than enough for one car maybe even two.

I painted mine with some red krylon spray paint for like $5 you can't beat the cheap mods! I even painted the shield behind the brakes. Did it like 2 years ago, and they still look good.

They came out reeeaaaalllll nice...

I might do another coat and then hit it with some clear to give it a nice shine.

Didnt even use half the can, and I put about 3-4 coats on each caliper.
