OK I'm painting my kick panels and a few other parts, anyway, i had painted them before with cheapo black spray paint and to night i was redoing them with dupli-color paint and it was good for the most part, BUT on one of the parts started to spider-web real bad and the paint just came off, what happened and what can i do to fix it, thanks
 
is the part plastic or metal? was it painted before with cheapo black spraypaint? If so than paint is incompatible with each other. In this case it must be stripped and properly cleaned and prepped. Id rather use the proper paint for plastics and vinyls available at 5.0 resto.

I have a whole black interior complete for hatchback 91-93 for sale in excellent condition. Its still in car. Pm if interested anyone.
 
Its possible the new paint you used was not compatable with the old paint. That caused the paint to become crazed. Sand the panels down if you can, if you can't because of texture use a scotchbrite pad and try to remove the high spots. Use a primer/sealer autozone usually offers it from duplicolor in a can. That will be a barrier between the two different paints and hold your finish. Also parts can never be too clean. Clean once, then again, and one more time to be sure. Paint won't stick to adhesive, wax, grease, or dirt. Get some good grease and wax remover and spray it on and wipe it off, using a rag soaked with it just smears the mess around instead of removing it.
 
i painted my whole dash and ALL interior trim black! i also painted my complete floor pan.. the MOST important thing in having a successful paint job is PREPARATION. I used Isopropanol to clean off any grease or debris. Then don't touch anything with ur hands and begin painting. Don't forget the plastic should be tacky after cleaning!
 
yeah i took my time the first time around, but the second i was lazy, so today i'll get the cleaning stuff and do it again, the long way...

so i guess my being out in the cold is why the paint sprayed so crappy tonight?
 
ok, i put a coat of primer on them and it worked better than befor BUT it did it again in some spots and my thoughts were to get the aircraft remover stuff from walmart and strip them down and start over, or is there a better way to strip them, man i hate when i try to save money and end up spending more
 
For the plastic trim peices, such as dash, rear 1/4 panels, kick panels, and center console, use SEM vinyl dye. Clean all the panels with laquer thinner, or other paint stripper that will not melt the plastic. Let dry, start coating with SEM. That stuff kicks ass. It holds onto the hard plastic stuff like glue, no need for primer or clear coat. If you are doing your interior black, I would suggest getting SEMs Landau Black. It is most like stock, not glossy and not flat. Looks great.

For the scuff plates and door armrests, use sandable primer, semi-gloss trim paint, then semi-gloss clear coat. For some reason, SEM doesn't stick to those very well.
 
Prep is everything with paint..you need to wash the parts repeatedly with dish soap, get your hands on some plastic prep spray and make sure to use a plastic paint/dye. You get out of it what you put in...half assed job will look like hell...if not right out of the gate, but soon after you touch it or clean it later. I put in the time with mine to prep it, sprayed it in 30 degree weather, and two yrs later the entire interior looks factory new.

where do i get the sem paints? and i skiped the aircraft remover, i got just good ol paint remover..
 
oh man have i learned my lession, i'll not skimp on the good stuff again. It took me like 2 hours to clean and strip the parts, everything whent fine till i got to the pillars, the stripper was a little stronger than the plastic, it started to bubble in a few spots, but i cought it befor it was bad, so i'll prep and paint them, and if they don't turn out i'll have to buy a new set and then prep and paint .pita
 
i used the interior paint from Late model restoration! stock color, and was ****ing easy...like i said i painted the whole interior ov my vert with no problems... like ppl stated above, use a plastic degreaser, then paint, more than two coats is ideal..i didnt use any primer whatsoever... looks great, even my registers (vents) are perfect!!

but i know what u mean when u say it comesout ugly..i had that problem when i painted my floor pan...
