Painting my interior. What to use?

My interior was black with white but now is all black. The previous owner painted it all black, which in my opinion looks bad ass. I love the all black look. Ok well, I need to paint it again cause it's peeling. I know a lot of you have painted the interior and would like to know what paint you used and what did you prep it with?

if its peeling,t hen he didnt prep it right.. Probably had some armour all underneeth that wasnt cleaned off well.

Paint supply shops, such as where you would buy auto paint from ( not autozone, lol) they should have a prep cleaner for painting just this. If you cant find it, laquer thinner, acetone, or denatured achohol all work fine. Laquer thinner is my choice.
You then need to buy the vynl paint.. which i believe is made by SEMS, not too sure if anyone else makes it. Its about 8-9 bucks a can, and is made just for this.
Itl take a few cans, but will hold up just as well as the factory painted interiors, if you make sure to clean everything painted.

funny, mine is all black and i think it is too much black! to each his own ...

i plan on painting and adding brushed aluminum accents when the opportunity presents itself ...

thanx, should i use flat black and shine it with armour all or they do they make gloss black

you're right vert, but i'm not a real big fan of painted interior pieces. just not me but to each his own. i wouldn't mind the alumimun accents tho

i would go with a semi flat.. Damn i forget what i used on mine. Come to think of it, i dont think they even have a flat, or gloss.. Its just black. Check em out and find out. But for a natrual look, ide get somthing semi flat.

The dask and vents were painted black.. The white sections are factory.

do you need the vinyl paint even if you are painting pieces that don't need to flex? i thought the vinyl paint was only necessary for the "soft" pieces.

you could probably get away with other paint, but thats all ive used, and havent had any problems with chipping, or peeling.
You need somthing thatl stick to the plastic dash, and door panels, ect.. Regular spray paint isnt the best at this.

i have re-done alot of my interior trim, kick panels, sills and so on and it looks badass. I get compliments constantly. The absolute best paint is Krylon Fusion. But like others have said if you dont spend the boring time on your prep you might as well not even do it. Wash it, sand it if needed and give it a final wipe down with rubbing alcohol or Kleen easy. Rustoleum also makes a special based primer specifically for plastic just as Krylon fusion is for plastic. It's awesome stuff. Hell, i feel like a damn salesmen.

thanx for the replies
sems or krylon will work just fine, i guess since both are very highly recommended. also, if i decide to sand, what grit should i use? basically just dust off, sand, wipe with alcohol or such and then paint and give necessary coats. i'll stick to semi flat like oink suggested.

My best friend works for a paint company and gave me a product called
BULLDOG. It works great. Its just like baby wipes, except its some pretty strong stuff. Use that as your paint prep'er. I used it for my interior and have not had any problems yet and its been two years. The next step after cleaning it with Bulldog was spraying it down with some etching compound. That why the paint could adhere to the interior. I dont remember the name of that product but if you want i can find out for you.

They're both the same paint, despite Metro Parts Market's claims to the contrary.

Definitely prep as much as possible. I washed all my interior parts with dish soap and a brillo pad, to get rid of all the grease. I used the primer first, then several coats of paint. I would suggest going by Metro Parts Market's prep advice:

My bad..

This is what we did..

Wiped the parts down with a "PRE CLEANER". Any autobody paint store should have a strong enough one. Then you spray it down with Bulldog. This etches the part just slightly allowing the paint to adhere to the pieces. Once that gets sticky you can spray the piece down with regular car paint, any color. I've done this to my car over 3 years ago and its still in top shape. No wear, No peeling..
