Painting or powder coating

I have the 17 inch rims the double 5 spoke ones, and i cant find ones that i like.
I have heard that i can paint them by myself. A freind of mine said that i can do it myself.
Big Cat i know that you are a body man what do you think of this idea? He said to use a scotch brite pad, tape out the grey in the hollows of the rims and do it (cause i want flat black) and he said if i didnt like it i could use acetone to remove the paint.
Or should i just go the powder coat route? and if i use powder coat how much weight would this add to rims and if there problems with this course of action.

the cheap way is to spray them, but powdercoat would be a better choice. what are your plans if you spray them? profesional paint or spray can? professional paint wont be easily removed, but a spray can will be a little easier to remove, depending on the type of paint used.

i would call a local powdercoater and get a quote and ask any questions before you did anything. that way, you will be prepared with all the info you need.

it would be best to switch to a stick on weight that goes on the inside of the rim. that will protect the new painted or coated surface. if you paint, you would have to either paint over the weight,or remove it and hope you dont scratch the paint when putting it back on. thats why the stick on weight would help.
