Parking brake cable too long. (Was TIGHT on the other car)

I need to know why the parking brake cable has 4 inches of slack when i install it on my car but it was super tight on the car from the salvage yard.
What am i possibly doing wrong ?

Just wondering. What model year is your car? What model year was the donor?

Any possibility that this swap crosses the 1996-1998 to 1999-2003 model year boundary?

Try this. Go to www.car-part.com and search for the part in question. Note the model years come up.
