I have my dash all apart, and have the speedo cable unhooked. Just have to disconnect it from the tranny. I called Ford today about a replacement speedo cable, and they wanted 60 bucks for it. I really didn't plan on spending that much for a speedo cable, has anyone had any luck with parts store speedometer cables?

I've used the Pioneer brand replacement cables from Oreilly's Auto Parts twice and have not had any problems, once they ordered the right one. The first two they ordered were not the correct ones for my car without cruise. They were like $18 or so. The only reason I replaced the first one is because it melted the casing using the stock mounting clip. That was after several years of use, though. I wired this one up a little further away.

If you need just the actual internal cable, any parts store one will work. They usually come in standard lengths, and you cut to fit.

If you need the cable housing, it may be a Ford only item, or a salvage yard item. I think by now, they may be available from parts stores though.

Whatever fits will work as well as any other, imho.
