Pass. Valve Cover--breather or hose to intake?

i'm using a fox-style throttle body setup, which means i'm also using an induction hose from a fox, too (black plastic hose from tb to maf to filter).

it doesn't have the nozzle for the hose that connected to the passenger side valve cover, so i just put a breather on there.

is this not as good/bad? should i fit a nozzle in the plastic cai and run the stock-type hose to the valve cover, or is a breather ok?

This is a good thread. I have wondered about this myself. i remember a thread a while back about the driveability benefits of running a closed PCV system. But i just wonder if it will hurt my stroker or if it willwork well.

i heard it was bad.

The PCV is now able to suck in air that is unmetered from the crankcase. You could block off the PCV and run dual breathers

pretty much. its like a big vacuum leak. i've never tried it though so i can't say what kind of difference it makes.

hmm.. seems to corolate w/ a possible vacuum leak that i think has been the cause of a high/jumpy idle.

i need to mold in a fitting for the ACT sensor, so i might as well mold in a bung of some sort to connect the hose from the passenger valve cover to the cai--guess Ford did it for a reason.

I am just worried that i would build up too much crank case pressure. Can the stock system keep up with a 347?

gonna have to read that when i get home.

anyhow: took care of this last night. i put the oil cap back on and routed a hose from the oil filler neck to one of the vacuum tubes from under the upper intake plenum.

will that suffice?

i'm running a stock fox induction hose--had to mold in the bung for the ACT sensor, but i didn't want to hack it up again for the vacuum hose if i could just run it to one of the unused vacuum hoses from under the upper intake. just wanna make sure it's ok... seems like the same thing to me.

that was a tough read. I didnt get through all of it but about 6-7 pages. Too much different info there. Some EFI, some carburated, some street, some race only. I couldnt keep up. Im more confused than before

You definitely don't want to use a breather and a PCV because you'll cause an unmetered air situation.... your car will run lean...

Well i have heard that. But it doesnt i have a wideband and it runs right on. It much easily be in the computers adaptive range.

Defacto is correct. Adaptive strategy being able to compensate aside, it does lead to a situation where one is leaner than they would be otherwise (I think that's more safely worded, and could accomodate JP's sentiments perhaps).

Hey Guys

I somehow or the other feel led to say it like this.

The breather opens up the closed system Ford intended and it will allow
unmetered air. This is a fact that is easy to see.

Now ...

That should, could, or might make a difference

If it did make a difference ... You'd think it would be in the lean direction

I almost always deal with things like this ........... in this way

I know how it works ....
I know it could cause an issue
I just don't like to deal with things that possibly cause me grief
Therefore ..... I don't

btw ... my 95's system is closed

on a side note ............

This is like that current running thread where the fellow asked about
using a different meter because he was told his CAI was hosing his
meter and causing drivability problems.

JT told him about the bend and how is could cause a prob

I told him about how the CAI could possibly cause him to run leaner

See the similarities

Some might have issues with a CAI
yet
Some may not

Some of the things we do to our Stangs
they be kinda gray
not always can we give a black or white answer

I'm done ramblin on and on now

isnt there a little port on the fox TB that the hose from the passenger side VC connects to?

definitely some wise men on our part of stangnet!

urban: yes, i think so. i, however, am running the explorer throttle body and it does not have that. thus, i connected the pass-side valve cover hose to a vacuum line from the upper intake. that's the same thing, yes? still a closed pcv system?
