Passenger side nut..

So yeah..

In an attempt to install my MRT h pipe.. everything runs flawlesslt until i get to the passnager side nut.. the very last one..

I know this is a common problem and has been posted probably 3000 times but I search for about 30 mins with no great results.

What will it take, withing reason.. to break it lose? I bought PB blaster and it worked great loosening the other ones.. but I cant find a way to get leverage.

I'm gonna put it off untill tomorrow, since its dark out. I'd really appreciate any help I can get, what did you guys use?

Thanks.

Several combinations of extensions, 1/4 drive for space constraints. Disconnect the negative battery cable so you can bang all over the starter as you're manuevering. You may need to put the other nuts back on to get the weight of the midpipe off that one bolt. I think the combo I used was a 3/8 drive rachet -> 1/4 inch adapter -> 10" extension -> 1/4" drive swivel -> 5/8" medium deepwell (or whatever size it is) 12 point socket

After I stripped that out, I used a smaller metric medium deepwell socket and hammered it on til it finally gripped. If you start slipping it, back off, regroup, and try again. Believe me, the extra 1/2 hour you take getting it off properly will save you hours of trying to figure out how to get the stripped version off. If you do strip it, when you put it all back together, don't put the stripped one on that side, put it on the drivers lower side til you can get a new one.

I had a similar problem with a stuck bolt when trying to take out my brake caliper mounting bolts.

The first time, I sprayed liquid wrench all over it then LET IT DRY then heated it up with a blow torch... be careful. It works, but it's dangerous.

OR... I got my 1/2in. drive ratchet and positioned it on the bolt with the handle parallel to the ground. I took another jack and threw it under the ratchet and jacked up. I don't know how exactly that bolt is mounted though, so this method may not be applicable.

Good Luck!

You just described my problem exactly. I got all of the other nuts off without a hitch execpt one. I ended up taking it up to my local garage and with a breaker bar (wouldn't fit underneath the car with just jackstands) and the correct extensions it broke off fine(did it for free). That bolt is a bugger. Once it is off getting the old mid-pipe off and the new one on was done in 30 min. back home on jackstands. Last bit of help be very careful with the o2 sensors so they don't get stripped. Hopefully your o2 bungs are cleaner than mine with the crap MAC durablack coating.

good luck:D :nice:

I'm sure its going to take one hell of a combination of things as you mentioned sgarlic. I'll look into your system of things.

I'm sick as hell with the flu, so I was in a terrible mood while doing this.. but I was still so excited to hear it's final tone.

I'm bound to driving it up onto ramps, thats all the clearance I have. I'm young so thats not a HUGE problem.. so no biggy on that.

I ALMOST got a good bite on it with the 3/8th rachet and a long deep welled in whatever size it was, I don't remember. I just couldnt get decent leverage to break it. The other bolts broke free very easily after a spray of PB blaster.

I'll give it a shot tomorrow, I might have to go to the auto store and pick up some of those conversions and stuff.. I dont think I have all that.

By the way, on the o2 bungs.. I just disconnected them where they were connected to the wiring harness, rather then undo them underneath the car. I figued I'll get the pipe out with the o2 sensors still on it so I could have some room to work with.. I dont think it will be too much of a problem.

I'm really looking forward to the final outcome. It's nearly a 1000 dollar exhaust without headers! sheesh..
