Passenger Window

Hey guys,

I have an issue with my passanger window on my 2000 vert. The window isn't lining up with the rear window and there is a small gap when I roll the window up. If I open and shut the door, the gap pretty much disappears. I have read that the glue on the windows was faulty but this window has been replaced and everthing seems to be connected properly. I have tinkered with the adjustments but I am not getting any closer to fixing this problem. Any suggestions?

I think there are 2 arms that the window rides on that lets them up or down. One is close to the front of the window and the other one is in the rear. Sort of like if you were working out and held a barbell in your hands.

The one in the rear is probably not going up all the way. It's probably the arm and not the window motor.....But hey, just my .02

It happened once the my drivers side glass was going up a little too much... It was the glass itself that detached from the clamp... I removed the glass and the clamp, cleaned and reassembled it with a strong adhesive... There are two bumps that prevent the glass from going up too much... as these bumps are away from the glass clamp (the clamp is attached to the window mechanism), every time the glass reaches the bumpers there is a force or momentum that will make the glass loose on the clamp over time...

Hey Hardtop - What adhesive did you use? I got some industrial silicone adhesive from the glass shop & it didnt last very long at all:-(

I tried the best two-part adhesive you can buy - the adhesive failed eventually.

My guess (over the 'net) is that one of the regulator arms is bent, or the rear or forward arm "gliders" have loosened from the regulator rails.

I believe you are having issues with one of the regulator arms (might be bent) or the "up stops" are not adjusted correctly , as a previous poster mentioned.

In any case, the best fix might be to have one of those "mobile glass installers" come to your home or place of work and install a new passenger side glass (fairly reasonably) .

If you have to adjust the forward/rear window guides, or a new regulator, I can help you, as I have lots of very recent good tips to share, HTH.

Thanks for the input HTH! We stopped at a couple local glass shops yesterday while out working to pick up some glass, etc. so I asked the guys there what adhesive they use & both shops said to use a urethane such as that used on windshields, I believe 3M makes a product called "Window-Weld", I think I'll pick some of that up & try it. I also asked one of the shops for a quote to replace the glass & he said $200, the only thing is he didnt really instill much confidence as he said he didnt think he had the proper rivets.... this particular shop does more home glass & auto graphics, etc. then auto so maybe thats why. Both shops said I blew it by using the silicon as I need to get every trace of it out of the channel & off the window of the urethane wont stick properly:-( I'll post mt results.

Sounds like a good plan. Maybe 3M has evolved their adhesives since I used their two-part stuff a few years back. Course, I live in FLA, which leads to the ability to fry bacon on the roof in the summer.

BTW, on this last window job I used 1/4 x 1 inch bolts with nylon washers on both sides of the glass and "nylock" nuts. Works just fine ; no interference; easy access, etc. etc.

I do have the special rivets and large rivet "gun" , but the bolt arrangement works great.

Bolts make more sense to me as well, thats the way they used to put em together anyway which worked fine Its likely to rain here in NC (we have some nice extremes in temp. here which likely contributed to the failure though the glass shop guys said DONT SLAM THE DOORS! - I dont but in my opine the wife does!) tomorrow which means I wont be working so I'll try to stop into the local parts store that carries a lot of auto body/paint supplies to see if they have the "Window-Weld" product.
