The little rubber seal around my emergency brake has split such that a 6" strip hangs down onto the transmission tunnel. I don't know why, but it really bugs me.
The rubber is not dry-rotted or anything like that, it just split and over time, the split has elongated.
So I am thinking if I can find a fairly stiff piece of rubber, then I can use some vulcanizing rubber glue (like model glue or the glue that comes with a flat tire repair kit) and reinforce the back side of the split. Since that kind of glue actually chemically bonds the 2 pieces of rubber together, it seems like it would be permanent.
Your thoughts please ... does this theory sound valid?
Any ideas where I would find such a piece of rubber? I Wandered around the Home Depot today, and didn't notice anything that looked promising.
Mods: I know this is not mechanically related, but it still seems like a tech type of thing to me. But if it doesn't fit the forum's definition of tech, then by all means, feel free to move it to talk (not that you need my approval to do that or anything ...)
