People who changed their FP HELP

I took the fuel pump out with the arm and strainer.I was careful not to bend anything.
I installed the new pump with rubber spacer by removing the two
sides of the arm and connecting it over the new pump.
New strainer and I cannot fit the assembly into the tank far
enough to get the tightening ring back on.
What am I doing wrong?
The old and new pump seem the same size.
Do I need to bend the arms of the assembly?
How do I shorten the assembly about .2 inch?
Any suggestions?

Yes its just a pain in the butt. You can get it trust me your just trying to be to carefull

DON'T BEND ANYTHING !

get a flashlight and look in the tank so you can see where the filter drops into or just keep playing with it if you installed the filter right it won't come off took me awhile to get mine seated right.

Yea, it's just a matter of fiddling it in there. There are like 50 different angles that it can go in at, and only one of them allows the pump to sit right. Just be patient and gentle, it will find it's way in there.

Also, the above advice also works on first dates.

I had to remove the filler ring
to use a flashlite. i got it in with the seal
ring and was able to turn the slotted
ring.
I can't go further till I go to
ford to get a new hose or fitting keeper to
attach the return line that I pulled off and broke.
I guess aome vasalene on the
rubber filler ring and I will try again tomorrow.

After seeing the electrical push connectors in the
gas tank for the pump I will not let my gas go
too low and see a possible explosion.
