My best bud just recently got himself into a 2000 GT all stock. Now he has the mod bug and is going crazy as what to do first

Well he bought a resister for 4 bucks off e bay that claims 20rwhp. Now while it was only 4 bucks out of his pocket I'm highly skeptical of this product. Could a number of you guys just throw in your .02 as to what this can really do for his ride and what he should really do first with his stang to get some serious gains :nice:

I went cold air intake and exhaust for first performance mods

Other than those... underdrive pulleys, gears

some good places to start I'm thinkin

BUT, I'm a big fan of first mod for any car should be new wheels/tires :P

Forget the resistor. He should lay out a plan of where he wants the car to end up and how much money he wants to spend. His first mods will be quite different if he plans to spend $2,000 vs $20,000.

Blue03gt, the resister wasn't for me nor did i buy it, reread my post, it was my buddy who just got his new car and is ready for go fast mods, I was skeptical of the product and wanted feed back from you guys so he can see what people have done and what their recommendations may be.

yah, like i'm going to buy a resister for 4 bucks with my mods :rlaugh:

anyways, I believe gears should be his first choice, 3:73 as it is his daily driver, but I want other people to shime in so he can see that I'm not the only giving him this advice :nice:

Gears are the best bang for the buck. Catback, shifter, mid pipe...the usual. These are good for whatever he plans to do with the car.
Yeah, what's up with your sig? The same mods (with the exception of plug wires!) can be used on a 2000 GT

twogts4us, please, go to svt forums, i've been around a while. Yeah, a lot of companies offer product for all forms of stangs. :rlaugh:

No, I'm trying to prevent my friend from blowing money, I've had my stang for roughly 3 years now, but he just purchased his and now he is all over e bay ordering products that are useless. He wanted to order a shaker kit beleiving he would benefit from 30 rwhp. I need your guys help to convince him to take his time when ordering products. All I want is a thread with people experience and opinions so that he can read what you guys have done and what has worked for you. Thats all.

Tama, I guess I just figured he would believe and appreciate YOUR experiences. I don't need to go to SVT Forums to see anything. And I certainly didn't mean to offend. I was just kinda surprised that with all the mods you've listed that you'd be turning to us for advice. YOU have all the basic bolt ons and then some. Your friend, I would think, could learn a lot from you.
Off topic, just curious, are you a drummer? I've got Tamas in the living room! Sweeeet!

You're the first guy to ever pick up on the brand tama. Yes, I am a drummer and I've grown up with tama rockstar drum kit and zildjian cymbals as my brand of choice. :D

I've told my buddy what I would do but I don't own a 2-valve so I thought it would be better for him to know what other people out their have done with their +99 gt and what works for them since everything I tell him seems to go in one ear and out the other. He shakes his head like he is listing then calls me the following day telling about products that he purchased that I've never heard about on-line. :nonono:

he tried registering but the mods banned his e-mail so we e-mailed them about that since he has never been to this site. So hopefully in the next day or two he will be able to sign on and discuss performance parts with fellow stang owners.

P.S. You didn't offend me, but it sounded like you were accusing me of buying this product for my car, maybe I misread or misunderstood. My apologies :)

I guess it all depends on the budget. I bought my 02 convertible GT last summer and I made myself a budget.

First came the K&N CAI and the Borla stinger catback. About 3 months later came a set of Tokico HP shocks/struts/lowering springs. This week I bought the SLP catted X, deepdish bullit wheels w. new rubber. I also put in an order for the KB 9psi kit, which will be delivered in about a month.

I had all this planned out from the start, and I suggest that you tell your friend to think about his goals. There was no need for me to get UD pulleys since I knew that I was going to SC the car.

These are all good suggestions especially shifter and gears on a stock car but I would also consider some quality sub-frame connectors to keep the body flex and rattles down to a minimum.

No need for shifter as his car is an auto. After reading the above post he has decided to first go for 3:73 gears. No need for redials as he has new tires and for the most part his car hooks really good.

Throttle body??? Timing adjuster???

No offense but please tell me your joking as for those being his first mods to look at :rlaugh: :notnice:

For a completely stock car those won't do anything for him.

Thank you all for lending him ideas. This is his first stang and he is very impressionable. Hope he signs up soon to join in on the chat.
