ok so i've been reading up a lot about different gear settings...someone please explain to me what would be the best setup for a 96 mustang gt. Currently the car is running stock gears and is driven almost daily through city and highway traffic...wat are the pros and cons of 4.10s and 3.73s and 3.9s and any other number gear i have heard talked about?

okay well everyone here will jump on telling you to do a search because thre are millions of threads on this subject. Also most people like me will tell you dont fear the gear and put 4.10's, but others will say 3.90's or 3.73's they have there reasons why. Now rule of thumb around here is:

4.10's = N/A or centri blower
3.90's = if you want part of both worlds and are undecided
3.73's = KB blower

npi powerband=3.73's at most in a 5 speed. The car will still be slow no matter what gear you put in

true, but most NPI guys will end up installing PI parts at some point... so if a PI swap is coming at some point in the future, it makes more sense to have 4.10s installed now than to do 3.73s and be wanting more once a useable powerband is attained.

:lol: Very true. Also, 4.10's with a NPI engine will "wind out" too quick since they redline at 4500 rpm's. The 3.55's worked well with the NPI engine since they have decent low-end torque. However, now with the new PI cams some 3.73's would have been nice since the powerband is at higher rpm's. If you do a lot of highway driving (like me) go with 3.73's. You will also be able to "race from a roll", something the 4.10 guys can't do but what everyone does anyways. A lot of guys like the 4.10's though.

4.10's for sure...:nice:

Only ricers "race from a roll" ..:nonono:
We have real cars , we race from the dig.
do "we"?

guess i didn't get that memo:shrug:
i usually race wherever i damn well please, rolling or stopped (closed course, of course)

best thing to do is drive a mustang with gears. if that's not available i'd go with 4.10's since you're mostly in traffic. gets you up and out of the way quickly. if 4.10's seem like too much do a search
